Is It Worth Renting A Car In Las Vegas ??
I'm heading down to Las Vegas next week and was wondering if it's worth renting a car. Some people say that it's a hassel, some people say it's worth it. We're thinking about doing some exploring, but my sister-in-law said that it'd be best to just rent the car for those couple of days.
I know that most of you are Vegas experts, so I figured that I'd ask you what you think ![]() |

I usually just have a limo or executive sedan service on-call. It's not as expensive as you would think and it's a nice way to travel...

If you are going to rent ... I suggest renting on the days you are actually going to go somewhere. And when you rent, screw renting a regular car, go and rent yourself something fun .. like a Ferrari. I rented one for a day and had a blast. Their like $400-$500 a day I think but what a thrill.

Thanks for the tips guys
![]() One other question as far as renting goes, can you rent a car right on the strip or do you have to back to the airport ??? I see from the Airport, I can rent a Cadillac DTS for like $300 for 7 days. The Ferrari sounds like it'd be fun, I might have to consider that if we do a day or two rental. Also, I'll dig into the on-call Sedan. |

Vegas has some of the cheapest cars to rent in the world, and it makes life soooo much easier. There is a lot more to Vegas than just the strip. I found that renting actually saved cash in the long run

rental cars
If you are looking for something decently priced, Thrifty and Dollar has large SUV's for a few hundred bucks for the week. Yeah, Rent a Vette has some really nice cars as well. Most of them are within a mile of the airport, and have free shuttle service to and from the airport. Hertz also has some really nice cars as well, Jaguars, etc. where they do not charge you a mileage fee. If you use Amex, you can get an additional discount. Oh, and Downtime, the Hooters casino is a train wreck, just an FYI. Don't make plans on eating there, as most of their restaurants were either closed or partially open the last time we were there a week ago. Unfortunately even though they run a successful chain of restaurants, they have no clue how to run a casino...
Enjoy! Jeff |

We're staying at Treasure Island, how is that for a hotel. I wanted to stay somewhere nicer like the Venetian, but my brother and his wife didn't want to drop the extra money on a place like that.
Trashymedia, thanks for the tips, I'll have a look at Hertz and Thrifty. |

TI is cool
Right in the middle of the action, it has Tangerine, plus the little pirate show thingie. The Mirage just got a new nightclub (Jet), and you are across the street from the Wynn. If you are in the mood for a great Japanese dinner, try Okada. Lots of ways to get fat and drunk in Vegas. If you need any other suggestions, let me know...
Jeff PS, in reality you will not spend that much time in your room, mostly to freshen up and sleep, but the TI is clean and the service is good... |

i prefer to have a car on my own there - crusin down the strip is fun and there is more to see than just that. and i think all casinos have a car rental station - i stayed at the imperial palace in january and they had a budget station right in the main hall. but i think it would be cheaper to rent the car upfront at Alamo or so and pick it up right at the airport (shuttle bus takes you there). but they don't have Lamborghinis as far as i know

![]() ![]() It's gonna be our first time in Vegas. I was there about 20 years ago, but I was only 11 back then, so I'm sure it's gonna be like I wasn't there before ![]() Is there anything that's "must do" ? I already got some nice seats for Cirque Du Soleil "O", so that's on my list, but as far as other things. We're planning on going to Hoover Dam. I was also thinking about heading over to California for the day. |

Just make sure that you get unlimited mileage if you plan to rent a car and go to Hoover Dam or California. While it sounds obvious, some rental car companies still charge for mileage.
Also, if you cab it around town, do not try to get a cab from The Mirage. The cab drivers don't have easy access to the front of the hotel and only go there is they've picked someone up who needs to go there. Cabbing from TI is much easier and quicker. You'll have a blast in Vegas!

Must do
Hmmm, going to California might be a trip, as there isn't shit between here and LA. If you can swing a day, you can go out to the beach, maybe in Orange County? They have much nicer beaches. I don't recommend Laughlin, as it is just another gambling town in the middle of nowhere. You guys will enjoy O, it's a great show. Ideally avoid cabs, as if there is a convention in town, your cab rides will end up costing as much as a rental. Most cabbies take the strip, which can add up quickly as getting in and out of some hotels is a nightmare of traffic. A Harley ride would be cool. If you like wine, there is a little wine bar in Boulder City on the way to the dam, called Milo's Best Cellars. If you were here 20 years ago, you may not recognize it. There's not much left of the old Vegas facade. If you smoke, go to the Hookah Lounge. there are alot of good clubs like Tryst, Rain, Ghostbar, Voodoo Lounge and Body English. Do NOT go to Pure, it fucking sucks. On Monday's there is a club in the Foundation Room at the top of the Mandalay Bay. There's also Mix at the top of the Mandalay Bay as well. Lots of fabulous places to eat, Nine at the Palms, Aureole, PF Changs, BOA, Aqua Knox, etc. It depends on what kind of food you like. As far as shows, Zumanity, Blue Man, Chippendales for the girls, Spearmint Rhino for the guys. That should hold you over for at least a few days....

One last question, are there a lot of places like Hertz or Alamo right on the strip or is it mainly the more exotic car places ?? I'd hate to have to take a cab back to the airport to get the rental.

![]() I would definitly rent a car. There is a lot to do here including the good eats, Mt. Charleston just got snow dumped on it if you like skiing, boarding or tubing, Hoover Dam is always there, and there are many place outside of town that you may want to explore. ![]() |

You guys are brave. After riding in cabs in Vegas for years and trying to walk across streets, there's no way I'd drive there - and I'm used to ATL drivers too
![]() The only reason I'd rent a car would be to go somewhere outside of Vegas, like the Hoover Dam or something. |
