Networking computers to share files and programs

So is this crap really doable? I dont just want to be able to access folders, I want to be able to see my other PC's programs, and load them. Is it possible? HOW?????

right click on folder -> sharing -> create new share. done. set which users can access it.. done. one pc #2 type in \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at start -> run replace the xxx's with your ip address shoul dsee a list of shares. right click on the share hit map. if asks for a username/password use a username/password on the pc1. boom.. mapped drive on pc2

Do you know where I can find instructions for this? I dont get what youre saying, I cant find a "Share hit map" function anywhere. And the IP prompts a standard windows dialog password box.
