As far as answers.. I don't think it tried to give answers.. It just gave situations with the same answers that people have for so long chosen not to hear..

I totally agree with you!!!

And lets not forget the great scenes with the cop and the black woman. At first he is forcing his hands all over her and later he sees her as the human being she really is and tries to save her - gees, theres an original idea.

But ultimately the movie fails because it tries to explain a situation as complex as racism with a cute little saying about the size of LA and how everyone drives and there is no human contact so that when we do have a need for contact it is a forceful thing that ends up in a crash of - what - people, ideas, violence - who knows because the movie has no responsibility and ends up giving no answers.

Actually it confronts a lot of racial stereotypes, and if you read any of the bio stuff on the movie, or the DVD extras you would better understand.

However, trying to cram anything of substance into 2 hour watchable time window is always difficult, and we see this in any number of examples in movies over the last century.

I haven't seen the other movies but I think this one did a good job explaining some of the racial stereotypes. Maybe some of the scenes were "over the top" but they definately weren't unbelievable.

The movie was obviously meant to leave you with more questions about stereotypes and maybe even an underlying suggestion to give people the benefit of doubt before applying any of your stereotypical tendencies. It has accomplished that or people wouldn't be talking about it.

Crash was a really great movie. Totally deserved the win. :2 cents:

reynold 03-06-2006 06:46 PM

some critics are saying Crash is the best and unobtrusive excuse the Academy has to not to give Brokeback the best picture award

_Danielle_ 03-06-2006 07:06 PM

I thought it was a really good movie Lori but, not sure if it deserved the Oscar for BEST Movie of 2005 but, good nonetheless!

You are so right about the Rap group....LOL!! They were inaudible! It was embarassing!

In all, I thought the Oscars were sooooo boring! I would have rather watched my grandmother sleep! That's just my two cents!

A movie is not meant to be understood by reading or watching the extras on a DVD that comes out some months later - usually the expected emotional or visceral response is good enough. It just didn't do it for me.

Downtime 03-06-2006 08:39 PM

yeah it was really good, but i thought Munich was better

abadfish 03-06-2006 08:59 PM

Crash is one of the best movies I have seen in awhile. It is now one of my favorites... Although everyone I was watching with felt Brokeback Mountain would win we were all happy that it was Crash that won.

I have no idea how Three Six Mafia won the music award... what the hell...?

It was good but I think phenomenal is just a tad strong for an okay acted film with a basic story.
