    So, Barbaro won the Derby...he looks very good...

    I've been waiting all my life for a Triple Crown Winner...anyone else watching?

    Be glad you didn't see this magnificent horse, seconds out of the gate, fracture his right rear leg, above and below the ankle.

    It's tragic...he will, most likely, never race again..and it's life threatening....very sad day for horse fans.

          No. It doesn't happen during the race. There have been times when a horse is scratched prior to getting to the gate due to injury or illness. Rarely, does it happen after they start running.

          A compound fracture on a horse's leg, any leg, is not only serious, but life threatening. Usually, they are put down, even if surgery is attempted.
