Merchant Accounts

Hola

I'm opening up a hosting site soon, and I'm shopping around for a merchant account. I've found a few offering them, but there's something in particular I am looking for.. the ability to 'force' a charge to a customers card.

Specifically, I need to be able to set up a monthly fee, and then at the end of the month be able to force a charge for the overages if the customer used too many gigs.. this would of course be in my terms when they signed up. But sending them a url to pay for the extra bandwidth is something I'd prefer not to do..

Anyone know where I can get a merchant account that can do this?

Under products that cannot be sold:

Online Subscription Pornography
Adult Subscription Content
Adult Products ( X-Rated Videos, Sex Toys )

I wonder if they'd have a problem with me charging for the hosting of adult sites.. I doubt it, but who knows.

Thanks for the link, I'll look more into it.

I emailed them, they said that once a recurring billing starts, I can't change the amount billed. So if someone upgrades to a higher plan, I'd have to cancel the current billing and have them fill out the form again for the new recurring payment.. plus I can't force charges for overages. They have a nice site and pretty cheap prices, but for a hosting site, they just aren't any good.

netbilling -- thanks, I'll check it out.

If someone agrees to be billed X per month and you bill them X + you are looking at a hard situation with chargebacks and refunds. The cardholder would prevail in such a situation unless you get some sort of verification prior to billing them for a different amount than they expect.

I'm not saying you can't do it, especially on your own merchant account, but what I am saying is that you'd best be ready to issue credits and refunds at the drop of a hat or you'll find yourself over the allowable limits very quickly.

Kimmy, its not a paysite or anything, the webmaster would be well aware of the charges. I'd let them know over ICQ, email or whatever.

Lets say he pays $20 for 20gb and knows fully about the $2 per gig overage. They use 30 gigs. I bill them $40 the next month, $20 for the 20 gigs that month and $20 for the 10 gigs $2/gig overage for the month before.

It wouldn't be hidden in the terms or anything. As far as I know, this is how most hosts do it. Most won't send you a bill to pay for it, they'll just charge you.

It'd be much easier for me to manage and keep track of, instead of having to check if someone has paid their bill or not.. not to mention a webmaster maybe going WAY over their allocated amount and deciding not to pay.

Netbilling -- I still havn't gotten your email. You sure you sent it to the right address? Maybe my ISP's mail server is just slow tonight..
