Long read... true story, just happened...

Ok, it's like 1am, I was taking a piss, and the fire alarm in my building starts to go off. It was going off and on early this morning but was more like a test or fucked up, so at first I was just thinking it was fucked up again. But this time the strobes are going off and the alarm is staying on, so I start to put on my pants to go out and see what's going on. Note, I live in a very concrete industrial loft building, so fire is not really all that scary, so I am not really panicing, just curious.

So anyway, my girlfriend opens the door to the hallway and there is some dude out there saying that the fire is real, and that there is some guy outside our building with a can of gasoline trying to light the lobby door on fire. This guy is totally panicking and is like "we gotta get out of here"... I am like "fuck that I am gonna go see who the fuck is trying to light our building on fire."

So my neighbor (big black dude) and myself walk down from the 3rd floor to the lobby, and yep, there was some dude outside with a can of gas, and some small flames and lots of smoke were coming under the door (the rubber mat had caught fire), but it wasn't big, and the guy was outside, and we have a secure door that requires an electronic key or person inside to buzz you in. So I tell my neighbor to try and find a fire extinquisher so we can put out the fire, then deal with the guy outside (couldn't see him well, there was a lot smoke, so you could just see his silouette). So he starts to look and I go into the garage to see if I can find one also, which I when I notice that there are also pools of gas on fire outside our garage door, so I come back in to help/tell my neighbor and there is a guy just standing there at the elevator pushing the button holding a gas can.

Ok, now normally I would have fucking knocked this dude out, or subdued him, but this guy was COMPLETELY calm, just standing there, my neighbor and I look at each other, we had no idea if this was the guy who started the fires or if it was someone who already stopped him and picked up the can of gas, and our priority at the moment was putting out the still pretty small fire. So I asked the guy "Dude are you lighting these fires? or did you stop the asshole?". Still totally calm (I mean it was weird), he just starts walking toward us, so I just figure its a tenant who found or took the can away cuz if he was trying to start a fire he wouldn't be so fucking calm that we caught him, and there is no way for the guy outside to have got in unless he had a key or was buzzed in.

So I am grabbing one of the phonebooks stacked up that the phone co. dropped off, and was gonna pound out the fire that was on the door. By this time more tenants are starting to come down the stairs, and the guy who was freaking out outside my unit on the 3rd floor starts to yell "That's HIM!!!", and know one else knew that there was a guy lighting a fire, they were just leaving due to the fire alarm and smoke. So the guy with the gas can starts to splash the shit towards us and trying to light it with his lighter. Now as a kid I one time lit a match by a gas can and a huge arc of flame from the fumes went like 3 feet from my match to the gas can and lit it on fire, so I am a little wary about his guy trying to light his lighther right by the gas can...

More people are coming down the stairs now, so I am trying to tell them "Go back up the stairs this guy is trying to light us on fire" of course no one is listening so I start running up the stairs stopping them. Some old lady is just standing there, not knowing what is going on, I say "Maam, go back in, this guy" who is just still calming walking up the stairs 10 feet behind me splashing gas and trying to light it, just keeps coming, it was like fucking Michael Meyers, just calm, walking slow, so know one could tell he was a fucking psycho, so I am trying to get all these people back up the fucking stairs.

Finally everyone gets the fucking idea and starts running back up the stairs. By this time I am back on my floor, and the guy was still behind me, just walking slow splashing gas and trying to light it, like on the railings, corner walls, etc. So then my gf comes out and I tell her to go back in and call the police and fire, she not's really comprehending the situation, so I grab her and take her back in tell her to lock the door (cuz the guy was trying all the door knobs as he walked by them). So I call 911 they tell me I need to get out of the building because I could get trapped by the fire, I try to explain to them that there is a guy outside my door with a can of gas that's a bit of a problem, they say they know but try to get by him. So, I get my gf and dogs ready to get out, and i grab a club, cuz I am gonna knock this fucker over the head. I go back out of my unit and he's fucking gone. No one knows where he went cuz the all went back in their units or down the other stairs.

So I just take my dogs and gf outside via the other stairs cuz the smoke is really bad now, the police and fire are just getting there, I tell them that the guy was last on the 3rd floor, but then he disappeared, and no one knows where he went.

It turns out the dude got on the elevator, went up to the 8th floor, found and unlocked door, and lit their bed on fire. They caught him up there, so they got him.

Now, I know most of you are like "Dude, whey didn't you fucking knock the guy out?" And my answer is, "It was sooooo fucking weird, the guy was so calm, I mean it was the strangest thing I have seen, both myself and my neighbor (I ain't big, or small, but my neighbor is a BIG black dude and could have destroyed the guy instantly) thought the guy was a tenant who already stopped the guy, and by the time the guy who know who it was indentified him, everyone was heading straight for the guy and he was basically trying to light them on fire, so our attention turned to stopping the people from coming down the stairs.

Even when I talked to the older woman who I told to go back in, she said "I just stood there, I had no idea what you were talking about, the guy seemed so normal the way he was walking I just thought he as one of you and had no idea what he was doing".

It was soooo weird...

as shitty as it is; something out of the ordinary is always fun so long as no loved ones are hurt. Personally I don't live in the city due to jerks like this but to be honest; city or country the second the fucker started trying to splash gas in my general direction I would have put him down like a lame horse

Yah, When I was debating to knock him out, it was too late people started to come into the danger zone. and he wasn't just splashing gas, there was already a fire going on around us, and he was trying to light the gas as he splashed it but his lighter wasn't igniting... So it was more of a calculated non-knock out, due to all the factors involved. The guy wasn't big, he wasn't really the issue.

ya, one unit, the one he lit on fire got fucked up by that, and several more on the same floor and below got fucked up by water damage from the sprinklers and fire crew.

Apparently this guy was arrest a few weeks ago for trying to break in, and there have been several arson fires in the last month and they think he might be the guy.

Yah, I guess I was on the news this morning, I am not up in the morning but my neighbor said he saw me, cuz some independent camera guy interviewed me for a second last night.

Luckily some ex-military guys on the top floor tackled him, so I read in the news, and all the guy said was that he was doing it for Mohamad. (sp?).
