LENSMAN .. why are you..

recommending we promote guba ??

"
<option value="http://www.amateurmoney.com" Selected>*** GFY Recommends: ***</option>
<OPTION value="http://www.guba.com/static/revshare.phtml?gfy">GUBA</option>
<OPTION value="http://www.ibill.com/default.cfm?campaignID=GFY010">Ibill</option>
"

I dont think anyone got any sort of real answer, yet they are added to your list of recommended programs..

I also notice the guba skin is still hiding in the page source , so i take it its going back.. ??

Are you aware that they are selling exclusive playboy content for alot cheaper than your programs ? are you aware they are also selling hundred/thousands of other sites content ?

If so and you still recommend them then it would be nice to know . I have foreigners waiting to upload playboy dvd rips to the usenet so i can sell them for a fraction of the price..

If anyone else wants to get in at the ground floor let me know , dont let gfy be the first company to "push the envelope" why let them make money off stolen content when you can make money off the same stolen content ( of course when i say stolen i dont mean stolen i mean " the usenet has been around for 20 years " )

Im sure any content that is part of the adult.com network has already been blocked by Guba. Therefore it is still money in the bank to have them advertise here.

Correct me if I am wrong.

and it also brings a whole new avenue of profit.. if promoting access to stolen content is "accepted" then it means anyone not using drm or other methods to protect their content is "fair game" and it would be ok for me to pay people in countries that dont follow international copyright laws to rip content place it on usenet and me to sell access to it..

right now I am sure Lensman is not thinking of how we are feeling on the whole issue - what is going through his mind is $$.

Does he loose a paying client who at this point may be asking for his money back - or does he potentially loose some posters who can be future advertisers. truth is that no matter which way it goes Lens will win and he knows it.

Ban Guba and sponsors will break the door down in support but he looses the payment or at least partial paid back to Guba for a failed attempt.

Allow Guba and sponsors MAY hesitate but once the drama increases thats all Lens needs to show that the board brings out webmasters and I will guarantee the next in line for 'skin' will pay next to double since everyone will recognize its there after guba is gone.

Lens really couldn't care less what webmasters think on the subject - what he is doing is considering how much if any money should be returned.

thats my guess - probably wrong - but from what I see, is a likely scenario

i dont doubt that , but how "we" feel is how lensman makes his money right..

If people think gfy is "highest bidder" takes all, not only will it decrease the value of the ad space , but allowing "guba" of all people could only hurt his/adult.coms future in promoting a program that sells the same content for a cheaper price.. not to mention the fact the content is no longer exclusive..

I think you are right. Honestly I don't think he gives a shit either way. He cashed out for a nice figure with at least 6 zeros at the end.

I guess thats the operative word "how we feel" - the fact is that no matter how angry we all get, who is going to stop coming here? Lensman knows that - and as much as we can prove how wrong Guba or anyone else is what matters at the end of the day is "hits". Whoever has the hits has the power.

Lens doesnt care if they are friendly hits or not - I sincerely wish that it was the case that they did the right thing and stood up for the webmaster and other content companies, but I highly doubt they will. Unless it affects someones bottom dollar - Lens will continue to promote to future advertisers that he has the most webmaster hits and interest out there.

Is what Guba is doing wrong? ABSOLUTELY - and why aren't they prepared to do the noble thing - the right thing and stop it? Because of $$. They have sold their soul and we know it... and deep down... sadly... maybe those who make the decisions at GFY have already.

Lensman probably reads these boards once a month now.
Maybe the mods can give him a ring.

honestly - our concerns are too small for him to be bothered - Lens is above coming to the boards and commenting unless it will seriously affect his income and I dont see that happening from anyone here hurting his bottom line. He has learned what the few of us already know - one days drama is buried and within a week - it's gone. Only a few remember it enough to drag it up again in the future.

we simply are not the webmasters / posters that have the dollars to make any necessary changes on Lens mind. Simple as that - we are only 'hits'

Shows how much Adult.com cares for its webmasters or any and all webmasters on this board (who without it would be nothing) or even the other advertisers on this board.

mrthumbs, I have said it in other threads and I will say it here: Guba comes back and I take the door.

The reason isn't as obvious as you think.

GUBA by it's nature is a surfer oriented system to theivery, that steals from each and every one of us. The continued existance of the USENET is bad enough in and of itself (the original P2P file trading system?) but to encourage companies to extract, filter, organize, and resell that stolen content is really not a very good idea.

It probably ain't bad for the surfers, but it sure is bad for the porn business. All the content from so many members sites for $14.95 a month. Yup. Got it. You can sell shit cheap when you don't have any overhead on the content production side.

It puts this board into few ugly lights that are just not very good for any adult webmaster.

First, GUBA has a business model that is 100% diameterically opposed to business models of honest webmasters running membership sites and the free sites / galleries that promote those membership sites.

Second, GUBA knowingly uses stolen, purloined, or borrowed content without legal right, without producer documents, and without model releases of any sort. You don't have to go far to find any number of legal issues that face our industry. The new 2257 rules alone make this site illegal as all get out (they cannot prove who the primary producer is, therefore they have no way to prove model age, which puts them in serious shit for hardcore images).

Thirdly, GUBA as a skin appeals mostly to the surfers and the pirate types around here who would gladly steal from their mothers so they would have enough money to rent a ho or put dubs on their four door honda civic.

GFY accepting advertising from companies such as GUBA would clearly indicate that they are not supporting the legal and honest webmaster community, but rather playing to whoever shows up at the door with a check and skin, regardless of the effect that these programs would have on honest webmasters.

It is what it is. If and when that time comes again, we can all vote with our feet.

Alex
