GFY MODS: How to Run a Community/Forum

What you thought there would be an answer in here?! Or some harsh words?

Nah, Just a comment from someone who spent his pre-adult web life as a Community Developer and spoke frequently at conferences on the subject. (see my chapter in Design For Community or google Jeffrey Zeldman's interview with me online)

Running a community is HARD. And is especially difficult in the "special" environment of GFY, where anarchy must find peace with civility. And rudeness must balance with libel.

I applaud the GFY mods for the efforts with this herculean task, and their success in balancing community needs, business needs, and a barrelful of EGO rich personalities.

Is it perfect? Hell no. But there is no such thing as a perfect parent, either. You do the best you can with what you got.

Since I did imply a suggestion in the title...

Upon thinking about it, the silence around Miss GFY is one area that remains a bleeding wound that saps the trust bond between members and the admin. It remains unresolved, so could easily be addressed and fixed.

It involved so many members of the community, and so much voting, that to have it revoked was a statement about the true value of member participation (unintentional or not). 2 cents.
