The best geotargeting database available?

Who has the best/most accurate one on the market right now?

hey pr0,

I've been researching this myself the past week. It's between maxmind and ip2location. I'm getting conflicting reports but it sounds like maxmind might be a little more on it. For my location at least they are bang on and ip2location is just a tad off.

Even with this I think I am going to go with ip2location as the support for .NET is not the greatest with maxmind. Price seems better too.

Id be interested in hearing what sort of conclusion you come to as well.

Cheers,

the only thing that sucks is that they don't have an API for the full featured city, region, country, isp database - if they did I would purchase the product. They do have an API in C# that I believe only works with the country database. If thats your needs then you are ok

The API access their binary format db rather than connecting to an actual sql db. Its no small coding job and I don't feel like programming it myself.

the php support looked good from what i remember

hope that helps

Just because the documentation doesn't mention a .NET API for the city/state/regional database doesn't mean it doesn't exist. At the time we were installing our geo-targetting system there was absolutely no mention of a Perl API anywhere on their site, but it did exist.

if you hear of one please let me know! .. I contacted them and maxmind does not have one themselves, altho I would be suprised as well if nobody has developed it .. they told me its on their "todo" list and would not confirm a date but mentioned its not going to be anytime overly soon

Both are good. I use maxmind tho(my sig is the old free maxmind DB, the paid is more accurate)

However, targetting a surfer by city is kinda impossible. I mean, my ISP is in another city. When I visit some GEO sites, they say, you are from ISP city

hey pr0 ... they have a basic API in C# .. I guess it depends on whether your programmer is going to do it in C# or vb.net ....and what features of the DB you wish to use (city, region, country etc) .. the API is done for only country I believe..

either way I am looking for the same product .. I might be interested in giving you some $$ for the API once your programmer is done ... let me know if that interests you ..

my ICQ is 203-296-161
