CVV2 = No Visa Rebilling?

There is a rumour originating from a well known source that Visa will not allow the new cvv2 CC number suffixes to be stored by merchants. This means that there can be no rebilling without input from the cardholder. Visa will require all Internet transactions to use the cvv2 code.

Can any of the billing companies comment on this?

this is why it is just a rumor

your not going to stop fraud or any other bs from some cvv2 number

some hacker will still break into a cc database, grab all the infos, then post them all over the place. revealing even more private pin codes and information.

the heads at visa, mc, etc. all know this and i highly doubt they would move on that type of protection

i rest my case..

This is off topic but it kinda shows what kinda attention financial institutions and the like are paying to the cvv2 numbers...

I only use one card for all online purchases so I can monitor it closely. I was trying to buy a server and I had to enter the CVV2 # but I couldn't read it since it was worn off. So I called the issuing bank (Citibank) the next day for a replacement card and for the cvv2 number in the meantime so I could make this purchase. Guess what they said, "What's A cvv2 number?"
I had to explain to 3 different levels of managers for 20 minutes what it is and what it is used for!

With this in mind, it leads me to believe that whatever is going to happen won't happen until those idiots in the Credit Services dept. at Citibank and the Idiots just like them at the other banks all across the world know what a cvv2 is.

Hi,

This rumor is absolutely most likely not true. CVV2 is effective for initial scrubbing and we offer it to our merchants. Many require the field, but most just use it as an optional field on the payment forms. We do not store the # as required by the card associations so obviously it is not passed for recurring transactions, nor does it need to be. Some carders are actually posting card #s with CVV2 in the bulleten boards. Fortunately, part of our scrubbing actually scans the board for card #s and adds them to our risk management system.
I;'m not sure how the other processors utilize CVV2 but I'm sure most at least offer it as an option.

Thank you, Mitch Farber

That will almost be a MAJOR income blow to the CC companies. I pay my electric bill, phone bill, cable, interenet access, etc.. etc.. with my check card.. and if they do not allow the automatic charge then I will have to key in all that info every fucking month.. not likely.. Im not gonna go thru the hassle of doing that.. now imagine that times everyone who does the same thing and all the diff. kinds of tranx that do that..

Not likely to happen!!

Mitch is correct and Ill tell you why.... If you can get amerchant account, which is easy as long as you are from the us and have decent credit (even bad credit will get you one with a reserve) Visa (or MC) trust you as the merchant to make a judegement call. That "call" would be; do you want short term success or a long term processing history based on integrity. If the chargebacks roll in, then your days processing CC's will be a short lived (perhaps profitable) excursion for you.

On adult sites, cvv2 should be required. All rebills STILL will have customer IP's and other relevent info logged giving you as the merchant, some leverage when charges are disputed.

I know its hard when someone speaks the truth... but when and if this myth turns to fact, I can promise you the ones affected will be 3rd party processors, and not your cable company or your phone company.....

I respect the 3rd party business model as a cash cow... they'll take upwards of 10% from you for the convenience. But, maybe this is at the expense of the industry (adult and non-adult) as a whole.
