Make sure you see a good endodotist to remove the remaining nerve. Chances are since your general dentist couldnt get it out, its because the tip of the root of that tooth is bent or curved and general dentists usually dont have the right kind of tips to clean out curves. Good news is there are several outstanding endodontists in redding. Bad news is he probably wont put a crown on tommorrow, he'll do a pulp cap ( a little white filling over the top) or give you a very basic pre-made temporary crown until your dentist can make your permanent one. You can ask either of them for darvocet (which is made from totally different products) instead of vicodin for pain, since vicodin makes you sick. Hope all goes well for you

No nerves = no pain

it was like nothing to me...though kinda tough keeping your mouth wide open during the light cure treatment... :Hollering

Correct, the tip of the nerve was bent. He could get to one other one that was bent but not the other. Right now there is white cap, and how do you know so much might I ask? I have been usuing just Tylenol and Advil combined and that has been working good enough so far. As far as the pain, it fees A LOT better now that he got most of the infection out. My jaw and teeth are still sore but there was a great since of relief after soem pressure was taken off. Thanks for the advice.

Oh just something I do in my spare time. :winkwink:

Careful with the tylenol/advil combo. You don't want to thin your blood too much or the septocaine won't be able to bond with red blood cells...ie: you won't get numb and it'll be harder to control the bleeding when they try to cement the crown on. Are you still taking antibiotics? Some of them, like keflex, advise to avoid advil types because it makes the antibiotic less effective. Just make sure the new guy tommorrow knows everything you're taking so there's no surprises. Surprises in dental- not good!

I have been taking penicilyn (sp?) for a few days and as far as getting the rest of the tooth done, I can't get in till March 16th unless there is a cancellation before then. So hopefully I won't need any more pain meds.

When I had 29 extractions done a few years back, I was up to three Tylenol3's (w/codeine) about every 3-4 hours. Got so bad my ears started ringing and I couldn't sleep. Which only compounded the problem.

But even though my entire jaw and head hurt like a mofo, there was an immense sense of relief that it was over and things were finally on the mend.

Yep, but they're in the bathroom enjoying a Polident spa at the moment :winkwink:

I inherited my old man's soft teeth genetics. He had his taken out in his early twenties. Mine lasted till my late 30s.

Vitasoy 02-28-2006 11:46 PM

Teeth pain is the worst pain I have ever felt, I had one a couple days ago, I could barely talk properly, I didn't want to get out of bed it was just that bad. :(

CC 03-01-2006 12:21 AM

I'm glad the root canal went OK for you...I can honestly say that my root canal was an absolute nightmare for me....the worst pain I've ever felt before in my life (although, I haven't given birth yet :winkwink:). Ever since that root canal, I've taken SUCH good care of my teeth it is ridiculous!!!! Never again do I want to experience that type of pain. If thinking about a root canal isn't enough to get someone to floss, brush, and listerine mutiple times a day, I don't know what is. Anyway, good luck and keep those pain pills handy.

L0stMind 03-01-2006 12:31 AM

mine went awesome, I didnt even feel a thing. It took a long time though, apparently I have deep roots :)

tristan_D 03-01-2006 12:32 AM

I'm just so traumatized of this tooth extraction I had when I was a kid. The petite dentist called a security guard to hold my head while she pulls my tooth with her pliers. I was crying like a baby right after

nick1980 03-01-2006 01:34 AM

It depends on the dentist. There are dentists who can do it with less pain.
