Question for any with dual monitors/multiple monitors

When you play videos, whichever format, does it play on both screens seemingly out of your control? As in you don't have a choice in which or if it plays in both? I hate the fact I lose one monitor while I'm ripping content because it's playing on both screens. Anyone else run into this?

    Thanks!

I'm using a Radeon ATI card and I have it so ALL video plays on my second monitor so I can continue to work on the Main monitor, so I would say that it's related to the card itself, my Nvidia didn't do this on my box? Hope that helped a bit.

Yeah but on the other it's full-screen...I want to be able to use both screens while something plays in the background.

                holograph,

Didn't seem to do the trick. Right now the issue in hand is that I've got an IE window playing a video, that's fullscreen on the secondary monitor. But I might be able to use this for something else.

Are you talking about a video playing fine, but when you drag it over to the other screen it goes blank?

in this case plenty of ram and minimizing windows does it for me, if i read you correctly.

i just picked up a new monitor 3 days ago. happy with dual screens, as for the video thing...if you make it full screen, it maximizes only on that screen and thats it you can work on the other one and as sum1 recommend the ultrmon is a must for anyone with more then 1 screen (too bad it dosent show the sys-tray on the other monitors)

                        V_Rocks,

Basically I've got a 20" dell up top, and a laptop screen as secondary. If I open up IE in either window, and a movie inside of a window plays, the other screen displays the movie fullscreen, no window controls, nothing. Same goes with winamp, windows media, etc. Any sort of video played, is shown on the secondary in full without window controls. Info help any? If not, I completely understand I just got out of the hospital and am still a little loopy lol.

                        Thanks!

Sounds like an issue having to do with using 2 video cards.... I run 2 screens off the same video card and it totally changed everything. I used to run them off two videos cards and everything was completely fucked up. Like one window didn't know what the other was doing kinda shit.

This is the same vid card. It's a laptop, so using the laptop screen (same card), and the vga output to the dell 20".

I've got an nvidia here, both monitors on the same card and it will only play video on one screen at a time.

I've got 3 screen on nvidia cards - there's two things to consider
If you're using hardware acceleration, which you normally will be, you can only have one screen using fullscreen direct at once. Want more, get more video cards.

Some video players suck when it comes to which screen they go fullscreen in . MediaPlayer invades my main screen. Use MediaPlayerClassic, and you'll find it's a whole lot better, and also lets you maximise in the monitor of your choice.

To do fullscreen video on two different screens, you need two different video cards, or disable hardware acceleration for the video player. It'll look shit and play laggy, but hey.
