Corvette vs. Ferrari

So can the new top end stock Corvette really take a stock Ferrari F430?

My uncle today was blabbing about how if he had a new Corvette he could take my Ferrari.

I didn't bother to point out the fact that he doesn't have a new Corvette and yet I have the Ferrari. But I bit my tongue.

Quarter Mile? Track?

It doesn't matter if the corvette is faster. It's still a corvette. Nothing beats a Ferrari

Anyone who compares a Corvette with a Ferrari has never driven a proper car.

Most likely would beat it in the 1/4. The new Z06 is running high 10's with a good drive low 11's with an average one. Where as the Ferrari is high 11's - to low 12's if I remember correctly.

Though I wouldn't call the new Z06 "just a vette"

the Ferrari has the worst wiring and istrumentation!

the vette has more caddy like features then the Ferrari, you cant beat the Sound of a Ferrari Motor.

Lots of people knocking the Vettes. I love my supercharged Z06. Not to say I wouldn't want a Ferrari but I am getting a pretty good bang for the buck and they are solid cars.

I would agree. I think its mostly because Ferrari has the "glamour' aspect more so than a Vette.

Can you post some pics of your Z06. Would love to see them?

You obviously haven't heard a Lamborghini sing. Less gimicky...more raw sounding.

As far as the Corvette thing goes.

Yes the new Z06 is faster than pretty much anything on the road. 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds (in first gear).

Yes it's still a Corvette and yes a Ferrari is a much more desirable car. But what's the fun when all you get is exclusivity. The Z06 is pratically 1/4 of the price of the F430 and lays the smack down.

Ferrari is definetely a prestigious item but what comes with it is a monster of a service cost.

My friend asked me yesterday if I would ever buy a Ferrari and the answer to that is no. The reason is because the servicing of such a vehicle would have to be done in Toronto (you can't get it serviced where I live). Shipping that car down to Toronto for an oil change or any little silly thing would be quite annoying. I have a Cadillac dealership 30 second drive away from my house and the cost to maintain one of those is insignificant.

Don't get me wrong I think Ferrari's are INCREDIBLE, but time is money and for that reason alone I would choose the Vette and put the rest of my money into things that appreciate not depreciate.

Not very glamorous but it is one of my favorite toys. I am debating whether or not to get the new Z06. Perhaps I am getting old but I am starting to lean towards a nice Mercedes or BMW M6

Here's some interesting stats from Motor Trend:

Corvette Z06 | Ferrari Enzo
Quarter mile: 12.0@124mph | 11.0@133mph
600 foot slalom: 70.8mph | 71.0mph
Braking 60-0: 110 feet | 106 feet

Don't have info on the F430 to compare it to but it looks like it's within a hair of the Enzo for handling/braking at least.

Very sharp. I have family in the Buffalo area. Next time I'm up there, I'll hit you up. Would love to see it up front.

And just cause you want a M6 .... well that doesn't make you old. That makes you a pimp. Love that car.

Same with the Vette and Ferrari.. You have to have the top end Vette to beat the Ferrari.. but at the end of the day.. vettes are dime a dozen.. F430's are not

at some point it's gotta come down to driving skills . . the new vette does stand up against the ford gt and the new viper in car mag testing . . however with a 200K? price difference you gotta be getting something beside a cool hood emblem . . And if ya dumped 200k into a vette? And remember this: a vette is a mass produced factory car while a Ferrari is hand made . .

The new Z06 vette has beaten top ferraris on the quarter mile AND race track (nurburgring)

So I would go with the vette

It depends...
For an experienced driver it's hard to say which one is better (faster, more control) both cars are rockets. The difference could be only notised by a pro driver on a track. The difference a normal driver would experience would be just personal likes and dislikes which are however very important.

Ferari = prestige and exclusive, but absolutelly not comfortable (for me) and bad rear view. Service is another story...
Ferari is a great car. When you hear the sound of the engine and drive it to the max it's fantastic. I would love to have one if i could afford a garrage with other 4 normal cars.

Corvet = comfort in a rocket. Less exclusive, but just a great car.
A top model of a corvet beats ferari for me. It's a car you can drive crazy when you want and cruise comfortable with when you are not in the racing mode. It's a car that has both comforable big seats and huge engine with a sports gear. I just love it. A great choice as a second car.

I don't own a ferrari or corvet. I drove the cars of my friends.
I drive a 400HP Jaguar. But i am a big fan of sports cars and has tested lots of different models. Corvete will be my second car for sure, when i feel my business is stable enough to afford a second car. A tuned version that can make 1-60Mph in 3.5 seconds cost 100k$ in europe.

Depends on what other cars you have.. A vette really isn't an everyday driver.. it's a 2 person car. You can't do much with that. but joy ride and work and back..

Every day cars to me are SUV's Trucks Compact cars.

Vettes are the only true American Sports Car

For those that haven't heard of it, this might be an interesting link: http://www.lingenfelter.com/Lingenfe...boCorvette.htm

For an extra $46K they put a twin turbo setup on a new Z06 that brings it up to 800HP. I don't have performance data but I doubt any production car in the world would be able to touch it. Lingenfelter is expensive but it's also 'OEM quality' so it's reliable enough and honed well enough to drive every day like a normal car.

Anyone that has the wallet for it,will go with the ferrari. It's a no brainer.
That same person will have original art hanging on their wall. Not reproductions.

Still weird like 99% of the Europeans think a vette is a nice car but not a sportscar. Z06 are here but theyre expensive, most guys go for a porsche or when they have some more cash a ferrari.

Still a Z06 is nice.
