Washington Post Story - Bait and Switch Dialer Closed by FCC

According to article, the defendants in the case sent out e-mail messages notifying consumers that they had won a Sony PlayStation 2 or some other prize. Consumers who responded to the contest notification were directed to a Web page that appeared to be operated by Yahoo.

From there, consumers were prompted to make a "toll-free" Internet connection to claim their prizes. By accepting that prompt, victims of the scam downloaded an auto-dialer which funneled them into an adult Web site, where they were charged up to $3.99 a minute.

The FTC says the defendants collected $11 million in the scam.

An FTC staffer said that the agency had not had any direct contact with BTV or its lawyers. Efforts to locate contacts for BTV and the other defendants in the case were unsuccessful.

If they did it right they are in the clear, the 11 million is safe and now they can start their next scam.

Theres no way that fuck took 11 mill in one year, NO WAY! That's almost 1 mill a year, if he did, he was the owner of the dialer. He just did that on the side. Thereis no way he made 1 mil off spamming a month, thats like more then most succesfull online business make.

First of all it's the FTC not the FCC.

Second, the article is complete bullshit.

The scam lasted about 3-4 months tops, and it was done by a corrupt Telcoweb reseller right under their nose.

The 11 million dollar estimate is complete bullshit too. They are taking telcoweb's gross revenue and saying it was all part of the scam.

Essentially the FTC is stating libel and getting away with it because they're the fucking Federal Trade Commision.

Sasush is too stupid for a scam like this...although the spammers that did this weren't very bright either....but it doesn't take much to be brighter than sasush.
