Anyone have a bomb shelter?

I have always wanted a bomb shelter, I don;t know why, I'd likely just end up making it my own private egtaway place to relax. I told my wife I wanted to build one and she said that would be pretty cool. Can't say I expected that response haha.

so anyone got one? got pics?

it sounds like a cool idea.. but with bombs nowadays, don't expect anything to protect you... at least you will die squashed and not burnt though

I have a bathroom in the basement that's completely underground and has no windows - does that count? It's where I go if there's a tornado warning ;)

I have some great pics saved up for a website I keep intending to build.
I am old enough to remember seeing "Duck and Cover" in school and I downloaded a copy the other day for my (younger) boyfriend and he didn't get it. Most everyone here is too young to remember the sheer terror of that movie (and the ridiculous idea that hiding under your schooldesk protected you from the raidoactivity).
A huge cave fitted out by some rich guy sold in Northern Arkansas a while back, completely ready to ride out the bombs.

having a bit of a problem posting the pics

You find it relaxing inside a bomb shelter? Dude, that's just a place to hide and not a proper place for relaxing.

I grew up in a house with a bomb shelter. It was kick ass, but my parents used it as storage so my playtime in it was limited. After I saw the movie The Day After, I was sold on the fact that we would need the shelter and was always bugging my parents to clear it and stock it with food and water.

all the old schools in my town are bomb shelters they have 3-4 foot thick concrete walls...

i've seen some pretty crazy bomb shelters a few companies sell them they're priced really high though way to much to even think about having one just in case... i'd rather take my chances

I used to live in a town in Derbyshire, England, and we had a bomb shelter left over from WW2.

On the edge of town, about half a mile from my old house, was an old ironworks in which artillery shells were produced for the war effort.

Consequently, the Germans bombed the shit out of the area in 1940 and many of the local houses were destroyed by stray bombs. By the time we bought it, ours was the only house in the town which had a functioning underground shelter and as a boy I used to go down there with my chums and burn candles and tell ghost stories.

The fields surrounding the ironworks were pockmarked with deep bomb craters and I used these craters in which to have a bit of out-of-sight outdoor nookie with my girlfriends from age 16-18 I never used the bomb shelter for this purpose though; there were always too many spiders in there.

Fond memories.
