Its a total joke, and I've been there twice.

Twice? Probably your very own fault.

My Ex was Polish and they did the evelope things. But most were dirt poor (they didn't make it to the wedding in ATL, we had a separate "reception" in Baltimore for his family) so we didn't make out like bandits but we got a few thousand.

When I called my Dad to tell him I was getting divorced, crying like a baby, needing sympathy, his first remark was "Fathers only pay for one wedding" ;)

I lost a lot of money in some of my weddings. Not any more! Now I prefer make money out of wedding!!!

I spent a fortune, well over 6 figures. Only had about 100 people invited, cant imagine the cost if we had invited 100's.

95k, a little over 400 guests, ended up about 10k in the hole after the envelopes. the marraige lasted a whopping 9 years.

i was thinking about that not too long ago... that would suck blowing so much $ at once :Oh crap

Wedding? I got married? Boy, I'm glad I missed that.

Can't believe how much some people spend for their weddings. I'm getting married in June, and my fiance's family is taking care of pretty much everything but no way will we even be going over 10k. I think 5k will be pushing it.

2HousePlague 02-26-2006 09:01 PM

$50k in 1996 -- never again.

Herb Kornfield 02-26-2006 09:03 PM

$8500 for everything for 55 people.... We paid for it oursevles 100% and our Honeymoon.

Had it where we met ( her fathers place in Bucks County PA on a 5 acre estate thats totally landscaped out, now a $1-2m property ) ...

Rented all the tables, charis, silverware, glassware.. Had to set it all up ourselves until 5am the day of our weedding since the delviery trucks came late. Made all the food for 55 people and her dad made the most amazing cake for us.

In the end, it was nice...but, its really just 1 day out of many you'll live through and you dont really get a chance to talk to anyone, you get 10,000 pictures taken so you are blinded from flashes and all your buds are there for the open bar which always results in someone doing some stupid shit somehow somewhere that you have to deal with at that point when its TOTALLY not the time for this shit.

As far as really happening weddings go... $tandaman's was off the chain. He had everything you could imagine to eat and drink and then some more. THAT was a party like no other.

Yeah you're right--but only from the standpoint that most of the GFY patrons are such monstrous tools that they haven't experienced the pleasure of a nice wedding yet :helpme

Next time I'm doing the drive thru in Vegas and have it officiated by an Elvis impersonator :)

As of now, we are at the planning stage of our marriage. We haven't talked about the bugdet yet. We're willing to spend more if the situation needs because that special day will happen only once.
