How long will your host keep your sites up with no payment?

Just wondering, how long can you put off paying your bill before your host will suspend your service?

Mainstream host once let me go an entire month over. Adult host told me to fuck off after a few days.

Maybe there's a trend... or I need a new host for adult stuff..

It probably depends on how much you cost them a month by not paying!

Probably also depends on how long you've been with them. Ive been with my host for a few years and have a good relationship with them so Im sure they would let my sites run even though I couldnt pay them right away.

I unknowingly missed 2 months of payments on 2 different hosts when a c/c I never use was put on hold and neither of them cut me off. Had another host turn my shit off when it was 1 day past due date.

I could go several months for small amounts I suppose if I asked my host. I know I have gone almost two months before and owing in the low five figure range. (couldnt get checks cashed and partner was very tied up)

I think the key thing is communication, honesty, track record, and trust.

Communication goes a long way. It is sad that FINAL NOTICE and actual suspension of service is the only way to get some people's attention.

I've been with my host for several years. I do not recall the exact details, either my credit card expired or I changed cards, but some info that had changed was entered incorrectly into their system so it was declined. It took about a month before it was straightened out.

I missed 2 months once when the cc on account expired. I didnt even know anything was wrong till a week after the second payment was due the host contacted me and asked if I would be able to update the info in time for the next bill. I felt bad and payed it right then. I think the fact that half my bill is payed by refferals helped too though.

First of all everyone should pay their hosting bills upon receipt. After 5% of the month which is like 36 hours into the month the host is on the hook for any bandwidth that you used, so if you don't pay by that time they are really extending you credit, and then add to this equation, data center, techs, etc... costs and you are really sticking it to them.

Basically I don't think any host should really allow anyone to not pay ontime. Of course their are and will be some exceptions to any rule like after shock media has stated.

Theres really only 2 possibilities.

A) They made a mistake and a bill got forgot ( it would be hosticide to shut a users account off because of this )
or
B) They are short on funds..

In either case i would notify them and tell them of the problem and to give an exact date they will pay their bill.. If they are late by even a minute. shutoff the account because they broke a personal contract.. By forgetting topay they broke a "technical contract" but those mistakes can happen , you can't break a personal contract by mistake.. ( unless you got hit by a bus )

30 days. But we have to have told them why. we actually had it happen once when we had a card stolen, and could not get the new numbers.

I hate to break this too you noble one but business just doesn't work like that. If you decide not to work with people that pay on net 30, net 60, and everything in between you are shorting yourself a lot of business. I can't remember one B&M business I've ever been involved with where every bill got paid on the due date. Shit happens, and pretty much any company you don't pay is extending you credit. It's not like hosting is the only one with expenses and employees to worry about.

maybe it depends how good of a relationship you have with your host, how long you have been with them, your monthly costs, etc.

We try to keep our clients up as long as possible depending on there attuides, we try to be understanding and caring of the situation. If you have a rough month or two and you come to us and are whilling to work out a payment plan or plan to make a payment plan or work off your debt no problem we wont shut you down, but there are those assholes who are just jerks and refuse to pay we shut them off within a month.

Hey baddog,

Our system is automated we email them 10 day before any bill and 3 days before until the date and if declined then we email then everyday for 10 days then if they don't contact us the system changes the site to a updating page...

Then we remove the site after 30-90 days from the past due amount.

If they contact us then the time we give past the 10 days days by default varies.

I use my own judgement. How much slack I will give a client depends a lot on the history, relationship, reason and communication. I am quicker to cut off deadbeats now... as defined by recurring lateness and issues collecting. This is another reason why it's good to have full contact info. It's one thing to email someone or send an ICQ message, quite another to be leaving messages on their phone line. I'll let just about anyone go 30-60 days or more if we are communicating, 30 days or less if we're not. It's often just a judgement call where you find yourself weighing in what is your margain and what is the risk associated with your cost of continuing to provide service.

Good luck collecting!

Brad

Always pay my bills on time... though I recently lost my wallet and had to cancel all my cards.... my host isprime was more than happy to wait a few weeks till I had been issued with new cards so I could make a payment. I have never been late with a payment though in the 2-3 years I've been hosting with them.

With the one that I've been with for over 5 years, colo, with tons of resources on the box....they'll let me fly for a week+ as that has only happened once during a move...most hosts about 3-4 days grace period, tops...

It is funny that it is always the same people, and they never respond to the first 2 notices. Only when I say "you have 24 hours to contact me" do they reply. I extend credit very easily, just don't jack me around or lie to me.

I understand shit happens, but if you don't communicate . . . well . .

I did have to laugh when I came home and had a couple ICQ's from people that thought it was them I was talking about. It wasn't.

Heh, webgemshosting suspended my account even though I had paid, they got confused and closed the account, shut down the sites.

When I informed them they wanted to keep billing me again but that bird had flown, baby.

It was no big deal, just a bunch of unused sites, but since I wasn't using the account they just cancelled an easy rebill, not too clever.

They must be sharing IP's. We don't do that.
