you gotta be kidding.....what's your excuse for britpop?

Bansheelinks 02-23-2006 07:59 AM

thats such a hard question, but I can see why Led Zeppelin has been mentioned so much already. They rule.

Beatles
Rolling Bones
U2
Pink Floyd
Beach Boys
GnR
The Doors
Nirvana
REM

Hard to pick the best. In terms of public votes, Beatles usually win as the best band, and Yesterday or Imagine usually gets the best single vote.

Canibal-7 02-23-2006 08:06 AM

No excuse for that. I'm talking about rock music.

But look at this list:

Rolling Stones
Beatles
Led Zepplin
Pink Floyd
U2
The Clash
The Who
Radiohead
David Bowie
Queen
Coldplay

I'm not Biritish, but I'd like to see somebody argue with that list.

The Who
The Beatles
Led Zepplin
The Doors
Pink Floyd
KISS

The other good thing about Great Britain is its a democracy with freedom of speech - which entitles you to your opinion.

Isn't Leonard Cohen from Canada. Most might laugh, but I love his music.

The Beatles

Sarah_Jayne 02-23-2006 08:47 AM

I can never answer this properly because I don't think there is a 'greatest' as it all depends on somebody's personal tastes. I have my own bands that I enjoy the most but I would never call any one band the best just as I would never say there is a best writer out there. It all depends on the book or the song and who is reading or listening to it at the time.

dready 02-23-2006 09:10 AM

Grateful Dead

ZEP, FLOYD, STONES & BEATLES are in a League of their OWN.

As for the U.S. bands that can hang with the Big Boys I will suggest these..

Aerosmith - Metallica - Van Halen - Eagles - DoobieBrothers - GratefulDead

R.E.M. - AllmanBrothers - FleetwoodMac - C.C.R. - LynyrdSkynyrd and

Guns'n'Roses

Far-L 02-23-2006 03:45 PM

Grateful Dead:

Seen by more people than any other band in history.

Musically influenced an entire genre of rock music (acid rock, jam band, etc.)

Advanced the technology of live performance sound

expiremental and improvisational genius

Range of musical influences

Endurance

Stompin' Tom Connors! Woo hoo!

Sing it with me now:

Hello out there!
We're on the air!
It's hockey night tonight!

Tension grows as the whistle blows and the puck goes down the ice....

It's amazing how many BDSM producers/models/etc. are also nuts about hockey too....
