Drinking is my preferred kind of entoxication, only get close to being wasted in serious partying though.
I believe BusterBunny got real close to the reason but.. I think it's "Serotonin".
It's behind most of our "repeat likings"; sugar, snacks, sex, gambling, You name it.

Cigs are my only vice left.
I've already paid for too many executive lounges at various Canadian breweries over the years.Comment

Dopamine is commonly associated with the pleasure system of the brain, providing feelings of enjoyment and reinforcement to motivate us to do certain activities. Dopamine is released (particularly in areas such as the nucleus accumbens and striatum) by naturally-rewarding experiences such as food, sex, use of certain drugs and neutral stimuli that become associated with them. This theory is often discussed in terms of drugs (such as cocaine and amphetamines), which seem to be directly or indirectly related to the increase of dopamine in these areas, and in relation to neurobiological theories of chemical addiction, which argue that these dopamine pathways are pathologically altered in addicted persons. However, cocaine and amphetamine have different mechanisms of action. Cocaine is a dopamine transporter blocker: it competitively inhibits dopamine uptake to increase the lifetime of dopamine. On the other hand, amphetamines act as dopamine transporter substrates to competitively inhibit dopamine uptake and increase dopamine efflux via a dopamine transporter.http://www.101sextips.com

It's a euphoric experience. Why do we like sex? Hell even apes are known to consume intoxicating vegitation for recreation.

Mostly becuase it's recreational.
But I believe everyone has their own reasons. I personally like to smoke weed because I find everything more fun when I'm high. I remeber a time when I use to smoke to do everything: take the bus, read a book, watch TV.
Years later I find myself doing the same, but I also try to enjoy life when I'm sober. I think you have to be able to enjoy life without drugs, no matter how difficult that may sound. Even though I take drugs, I don't think it's a healthy habit.
A few years ago my psychologist told me something I'll never forget. We were talking about my addiction and he told me that, of all his patients (and he had many), about 95% of them were in treatment due to some sort of drug problem.Comment

because in nature we have things that naturally help or cure medical and mental stress. all the man made drugs are bullshit, and what makes people "fucked up"
possibly the mix of mcdonalds, marijuana, and smog, make you go insane? who knows..... but I know smoking pot doe just fine for me and helps keep my mind going slow enough for my body to keep up.Comment
