Congrats to Russia - Team Canada done like dinner

Good luck against the Fins :D

Great game though, Canada was all over them at times, so close on a few on the final 3 minutes.

Can Finland take it all?

Sakik played well, so did Doan today, and Brodeur was solid as ever for us. We did take a steady stream of penalties though which is something that plagued Canada in just about every game they played.

Refs did call some pretty stupid penalties though.

No way around it, Russia wanted it more and they got it. Two decent goals, solid defence and their goaltender Nabokov was superb.

I do think the Fins are the team to beat though.

Always is. NHL'ers are supposed to be the best in the world, and our team is loaded with 100% NHL players. Most of the other teams aren't. Most of them have a few but not all....

And after all, hockey is "Canada's game". Of course we're expected to win.

But many of us are good about losing too, especially to a great hardworking team like the Russians. No shame in that, it was close today but their scoring chances paid off and ours didn't.

This just wasn't the year for either team, Canada or US. I bet it will be a different story in 2010 in Vancouver.

Anyone know what's happening with the Czech vs Slovakia game? Last I saw it was 1-0 Czech, but that was back in the 1st period.

So, it's

Russia

Finland

Sweden

and...?

St Louis and lecavalier were both on quite a bit,

Not sure about Boyle.

St Louis had few good scoring chances.

Czechs win 3-1 with an empty net goal in the last 3 seconds.

so it's:

Russia vs Finland

Czech vs Sweden

I predict it will be Finland vs Sweden for the gold, with Finland winning it all.

Russia will win Bronze when they beat the Czechs.

Are any of you against Pro's playing in the olympics? I'am and for 2 reasons...
1. It puts the nhl on hold
2. Denies other athletes from being given a chance

?

the olympics is for the best athletes in the world. Why should the best hockey players in the world not be allowed to play.

Name any other olympic sport where the people who are the best at that sport do not compete.

you cant.. there isnt one.

The Olympics were originally about the best amateurs in the world competing. Now it's more about the best athletes, pro or not.

The problem was, we were sending over our best junior hockey players, but teams from Russia etc were sending their pro men but saying they were amateur. For a few decades there we had little chance under those conditions until it all changed some time back in the mid 80's.

I don't think there's any going back now. Every country sends their best, and our best are in the NHL.

I don't see anywhere that has all the team rosters, I've done a few searches for you and found nada.

You may have to search for sites on each individual country's team.

I know what you're saying. I'm saying it used to be that way, and explained why it no longer is.

If every country would put forth the same level amateur team it would work, but I just don't see it happening.

Plus, having the NHL'ers in the Olympics brings the games a lot higher viewership.

Viewership = sponsors, sponsors = $$$

Whatever happends in the semis it'll be an all european final Finland has been a positive surpise, but I think the Russians will be a though nut to crack... The Czech are favourites agains us (Sweden). I'm impressed with the czechoslovakian style (I know you're separate countries now, but you're playing the same kind of hockey, which might be the one that's most fun to watch) of hockey. We're just tactical and depends on our goalie (Lundqvist) and a few other (Sundin, Alfredsson, Forsberg). If they don't deliver we're f*u*c*k*e*d.
