Why does this matter? They are still filled with stolen content.

Actually, P2P isn't like Guba. A Guba for P2P would be a site that downloads everything it can find on P2P networks, and then charges for access to that.

Aside from that, as said above, Guba actually have the audacity to advertise to us, the victims.

Well, they both have stolen content, no?

Limewire charges for premier membership, no?

They have nothing in common?

P2P's also don't thumb the content and make it truly easy to find the stolen stuff. Have you ever spent time using a P2P for porn? I'd rather pay to join a paysite were I a surfer than put up with all the crap on P2P networks. They are TOTALLY different things.

Still - threads like this are always good to find those happy with theft to the point that they'll even argue in its favour.

p2p are all peers. you, i, and anyyone with a computer. they peer to one another not through a network. guba collects and filters content that is uploaded by users that PAY to be a member of a newsgroiups through news services. newsgroups are far more difficult technically for surfers that we expect to buy memberships to our sites. guba takes all the hard work required to gain access to all that high quality content by stripping it off of usenet etcm, filtering it, repackaging it to handy dandy formats, and offering it to its members for a monthly fee. i'm surpised that its taken this long for people to be upset about it.

limewire doesn't host any content. all they do is spider the content on their peers. the software for limewire is what connects people. limewire has NO stolen content. P2P companies have no stolen content. their users download and then are seen by the peer network that is online at the time.

technically its not spidering, they look in a shared folder, etc etc.

Ok, i know how P2Ps work.

Im just saying if you are going to worry about GUBA then you need to worry about P2P's as well.

Tipsy's talking about me. But of course, I don't agree that there's any theft going on, so I can hardly be accused of being in favor of theft.

Hating GUBA is like hating Microsoft -- they both sell software for accessing the newsgroups. Hate P2P file sharers, or usenet posters, if you like. But blaming the software toolmakers is just idiotic.

well, i dont see limewire over here trying to get webmasters by spending money on advertising to the exact same people that they are capitalizing on. people are pissed off that they are making money with hundreds of thousands of dollars of content that they didn't spend a nickel producing. thats the problem im getting the vibe of.
