Stupid Computer!
Having fucked up problems lately.... My computer is crashing almost everytime I try to do anything internet related, or when I even touch the scroll bar (really sensitive on GFY) for some reason... No blue screen of death, just reboots.... I ran a virus scan and had the usual java exploit viruses, nothing too serious, so they are all fixed now, but still get the rebooting for no reason, I run Windows M.E, Any ideas? Also does anyone know the file I have to edit or what I need to do to get rid of this problem? Everytime I boot up, 'windows installer' starts and tries to install this program I deleted like three days ago, if I let it try and install the program, it gets about half way and then gets all these errors (obviously since the files are all gone) any help would be appreciated
![]() Format C: is on the horizon though.. |

Whens the last time you defragmented your drive? Also, try getting rid of all your temp internet files, if all else fails reinstall ME as an upgrade.

What windows are you running? It probably configured to just reboot on error. Go to my computer -> properties->advanced And Click the setings for Startup and recovery and check if it is automaticaly set to reboot on error. Then turn it off and se what kind of blue secreen you get when the error happens. Try searching the registry for enterys of the program that are causing problems and delete all entrys in regeit for that program. If this don't help. Format c:

To effectively run scandisk put the computer in safe mode. That will get rid of the background processes.

Computer problems suck...
We had an electrical storm here last Wednesday night. The computer was OFF when the power went out. The power goes out here quite often during storms, so I know better than to leave it on. Anyway when the power cam back on a few hours later, I powered up my PC, and it went *poof*. The power supply actually caught on fire. Well it wasn't just the power supply, the surge knocked out the motherboard, and both hard drives too. The data is all right, but the HDs just won't spin. ![]() The good news is I now have a new shit-hot laptop networked to a new P4.

One more thing to try as a last resort before you format c: -- but be ready to format c: because it's easy to mess this up.
On most recent windows OSs, there is something called a "system file checker" that lets you go through and verify the integrity of all your system files, restoring any that have been corrupted, deleted, etc. It sounds to me like when you deleted your program, an ill-behaved uninstaller took system files with it. Different OSs have different formal ways of getting you into the system file checker, but the actual program is sfc.exe and you can just hit the start button, select Run, and type sfc.exe into the box. From there, just follow the prompts with care, because they are a little confusing and not really designed for the end user. SFC.EXE is a great little system rot repairer. It doesn't always work, but when it does it's pretty sweet. Good luck! |

Dude!! That's exactly the same thing that happened to my neighbour. It kept rebooting for no reasons and popping up errors while installing software.
Guess what? We went to the store, after arguing with the stupid owner that it's a hardware problem, and actually showing him that it happens without any reason (DYTECH Computers), we left the box in the store and left. The next day, he called my neighbour and it appears that the power supply was faulty. Of course he exchanged it for no cost (warranty) but just to point out that it was indeed a hardware problem. We reinstalled windows (M.E. too btw) a few times and it just kept happening. What I suggest is first get a power supply (shouldn't be more than $30 or so) and see how it goes from there. My neighbour's comp works like a charm now. Hope that helped. ![]()

dont think its a power supply error, although this problems sound all too alike... most of the errors I get are KERNEL etc... so a format might be in order
forkbeard, I looked for that file, couldnt find it... just found the .dll fucked up thing is, my computer pretty much only crashes when i am operating internet explorer, I tried upgrading and still same deal...... I cant go to netscape ![]() |

Get some WD-40, and spray the shit out of the inside of the computer, then a little compressed air with a portable sandblaster to clean everything real good
put it in the oven and bake it at 450 degrees to dry everything up any missing parts - duct tape them back in there seriously though, find some of the bigger adult net co's in your area, and phone them up and see who they use for tech support maybe you can get someone who won't freak out when they see what's on your hard drive

I had a similar problem recently. IE became virtually unusable, frequent restarts and blue screens. I think it is caused by running IE 6 on something other than XP (I have 98se). Check out this quote from Download.com in the review section for IE 6:
"Browser keeps giving error messages and re-starts internet explorer every few minutes" Internet Explorer 6.0 is not stable Cannot handle opening up some multi-functional websites. It becomes very annoying when you have to keep re-entering a webpage because it gives the explorer an error; but the webpage is needed for class! Other browers can handle the webpage, though. (Internet Explorer 5.0 would be a better option) " A lot of people are having this problem. Mine would usually crash when I came here (GFY, "multifunctional websites") I bought a new computer with XP on it and am up and running again. I still have to run a program that removes all IE components from 98se (old computer) and then reinstall IE 5.5. Just reinstalling 5.5 over 6 won't work. |
