How much should I be paying for hosting on a dedicated free bsd box?

Say I burn through a small amount, like 1000 gigs a month. what should I be paying on that?
I pay $50 a month for the rack space, but how much should i be paying for bandwith?

what are the rates lately?

I dont know what mbps is, I only know gigs.
Like $1 a gig or .20 cents a gig. Can I get rates based on gigs?

so then 140 a month for 2mbps breaks down to 21 cents a gig?
Including the rack fee?

3mbit is 1000 gigs in theory, not in practice. If you were to push 3mbit constantly with no highs or lows for a whole month straight that would be your 1000 gigs, basically. For most people, 1000 gigs is more like 5-6 megabit on 95th percentile.

Well, I dont know what one "should" be paying because you can get hosted really cheap in some major shitholes. You get what you pay for in most cases.

Wholesaleinternet.com has a co-location special as follows:

Up to 4U of rack space or a tower case with 1Mbit dedicated bandwidth - $75 per month.
Up to 4U of rack space or a tower case with 100GB dedicated bandwidth - $40 per month.

Bandwidth Pricing:
(Per GB Transfer Rates are Burstable to 100MB)
»$40/100GB Transfer (burstable to 100MB)
»$100/1MB capped (roughly 320GB) per mo.
»$80/MB (5MB commit per mo.)
»$70/MB (10MB commit per mo.)

Note that they own thier own datacenter. I have had two boxes there for a few years, they have had thier ups and downs but its been pretty good and they just bought a second facility -- the old Cable and Wireless NOC (plan to move out of thier current one, which is run by the worst landlords in Kansas) and I think alot of problems will go away then.
