Doesnt that typically go with improving it, increasing the standard, setting a higher goal for others to compete.

Well...I guess it depends on how you look at it. I would think that those that produce REALLY hardcore stuff would considered the bar raised (or upping the ante) while those that are into more general hardcore would consider it a step down in standards.
