If the System32 folder shows on the desktop, there may be an invalid entry in the Registry

1. Start Regedit
2. Go to both:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
5. Double check that the values do not have incorrect, incomplete, or blank entries

there could also be something in your startup causing it...

Start -> Run -> "msconfig"
Client 'Startup' tab
Uncheck anything you don't need

thats what i was gonna say too.

edit: (taken from another site)

you have a worm most likely...hit CTRL shift and esc at the same time to bring up your task manager see what is running...and look under processes also...if you see CMD32.dll or system32.dll running or under your processes window then you have a worm.

Please do not confuse system under processes with what i am talking about..if it doesnt actually read system32.dll...leave it be..if it does say either of the ones mentioned then try to end process on both of them CMD32.dll and system32.dll if it will let you...then do an online virus scan....also if you do have it..this particular worm...will sometimes attach itself to ieexplorer. but scanning will not recognize this. and even after you scan..you may still have to go into the registry and delete these files anywhere you can find them...the files being cmd32.dll and system32.dll...system32 is a file folder not a dll file remember that. also under windows directory look for a file folder called user32...if that file is present..then you definatly have a worm
