Do still make sites for surfers with 14-15" monitors?
Do you still limit the width of your site to 800 pixels even tho they look very small on regular size monitors?

I think the average monitor is 17", and many systems now ship with 19"

I can't imagine someone with a 800x600 monitor having the money to buy anything online, so why waste the space?

Yes. There's this thing called "testing".. and my traffic improves when I make sure the attention grabbing stuff is in an 800x600 window.

The most common resolution is 1024. 800 wide sites still look great on 1024x768. But 1024 wide, doesn't look that great on 800x600.

According to my stats still about 25% of surfers are 800 and below.
Most monitors still ship with 800X600 as the default size and I think there are some surfers who have vision probs that use 800X600 too. I think you can get away with larger formats when designing sites that arent all about displaying ads to the surfer...but I want the ads in their face in the first viewable screen. Using CSS can help you cover more screen sizes in 1 shot..tho sometimes doesnt produce the most visually pleasing layout. |
