guys in Europe, can you play DVDs from the States (region one DVDs)???

I want to order a movie but there're like 200 warnings that this is a 'region one DVD' and I tried reading my DVD manual but couldn't find any info on region one DVDs (whatever that is), so I was wondering if you have ever ordered any DVDs from the States, and were you able to play them?

I think my DVD's less than a year old if that helps in any way.

Unlikely it will play on your DVD player, but will on your computer.

Unless you have a DVD player that does all regions.

what brand and model is your dvd player? Often there is a 'work around' for this issue

no man, it wont play on a dvd player. It will probably play on your computer, but will ask if you want to change your region code on the computer and you can only change it back and forth a couple or three times. sucks

Also, you can buy the dvd, copy it yourself, and make the copy region free...

You just shouldn't buy region coded DVD players.

This is just the beginning though, it'll get much worse with DRM.

it's only sold in the States, not much I can do about it, I found one reseller here in SA, and one in the UK (I'm sure there're more), but they also get it from the US

DVDshrink, and of course you need a burn program. Nero will do...

But you didn't mention your brand/model yet. Maybe there is a work around

Why not just get the region 2 DVD, or region 0... even better.

I'm on the phone and it looks like I'm going to be on the phone for the next hour or so, my DVD's in the other room. I think it's Sony or Sanyo lol, big help I know.

But meanwhile I managed to place an order with Amazon, so I'll see what happens when it arrives, they said 27th Feb to 3rd of March, gee why does it take so long?

Sure you can. Actually region-code free dvd players are the cheapest. The picture itself is a bit crappy with split-up raster lines when you watch a ntsc dvd but it definitely is possible to watch it. After a few minutes you don't notice the crappy quality

When you buy your next dvd player make sure the store "fixes" it so you can watch both....
