It's just a cop movie... why even bother using the names?

The only thing resembling the tv show is the names, and that's it.

There must be a million screen writers in LA alone and they don't film anything but remakes now.

And they can't figure out why ticket sales are doing down the shitter.

I thought Charlie's Angels and Starsky & Hutch were both awful. I really wish Hollywood could get a little bit of creativity and stop recycling the past. Some (okay, a LOT) of the movies coming out now are just pathetic.

It really doesn't matter if you disliked them. They succeeded at the box office. Does this mean they're technically proficient movies? No. But it does mean they worked well enough to garner public approval.

You talk as if remakes are a new phenomenon. The film industry has been rehashing movies, novels, and the bible for 80 years.

Some "movie" remakes (good and bad):

                              Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
                              Scarface
                              The Ten Commandments
                              Stagecoach
                              A Star Is Born
                              His Girl Friday
                              High Society
                              Hello, Dolly!
                              The Maltese Falcon
                              A Man for All Seasons
                              My Fair Lady
                              The Thing

Are remakes a good thing? From a writer's pov : if it results in a paying job, then yes. From a producer's pov : if it succeeds at the box office, then yes. From a cinema-goers pov : if it elicits emotion and provides entertainment worthy of dollars spent on admission, then yes.

Idiot. Bad Boys 1 and 2 are great movies. Two of my favourite movies.

Show me 3 more movies with better comedy and action together than them.

                                          For the movie-goer: Ho hum.

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head: It's all about the money. But as someone who appreciates a good movie for more than brain-dead comedy, I would love to see a little more originality in Hollywood. They seem to be falling on the marketability of a "brand" name like a 70s TV show.

As for remakes not being a new phenomenon, you can't argue that there are more and more - of course, there's always been remakes. But they used to be based more on "worthiness", not on what will make a quick buck. The 80s when the remake/sequel phenomenon really took off and it's been pretty much all downhill since then imo.

All that's bullshit. Honestly. Anyone who knows anything about the industry knows you are clueless.

                                            1. A remake does not = braindead. Scarface was a remake. Case-closed.

                                            2. What's wrong with marketing a brand name? Doesn't every other business do that? Oh ya, that's right, movies are "art", not business. Case-closed.

                                            3. Post 80's remakes all shit, huh? Here are some post-80s "crap" remakes : The Birdcage, Chicago, Red Dragon, Miracle on 34th Street, Meet Joe Black, Heat, Vanilla Sky, Gone in Sixty Seconds, King Kong, so on, and so on, and so on, and not forgetting Scarface ('83)
