Getting sprayed isn't that uncommon really. A 28 guage with birdshot isn't going to go much more then a 100 yards or so. If some one fires over you from a distance(100yrds or so) you can get hit as the shot falls back to the ground(doesn't hurt at all).

                                                                                                                                                  But anyone that as quil hunted in groups know the importance of the line and identifiing yourself if you fall out of the line. In this case both Cheney and Whittington fucked up. Whittington came up behind the group and Cheney wasn't looking beyond his target. It's just what happen when dumb people hunt

                                                                                                                                                  I'm wondering if he was a little closer then 30yrds though(like the reports say) I don't see it penetrating that much from that distance. Not with birdshot and a 28 guage anyways.
