Enom wants $200 for each of my expired domains! Domain GURU's, what to do??
I had 20 of my domains expire, and they were in the "activation period". Well, I forgot to renew them, and now according to NameCheap they are now in "redemption period".
Well, according to NameCheap, the way I can get them back is to pay Enom $200 per expired domain while they are in this redemption period and I can get them back. My question is, has anyone heard of this? And what is a MUCH cheaper way of getting the domains back? It would cost me $4000 to get my 20 domains back, that seemskind of outrageous. I know Evan of XPays, and Taboo, and a few other here can probably have some answers for me. |

That seems quite a bit excessive.. I had a domain go into redemption period by mistake once and I don't think it cost me anything extra to renew it.

So what can I do? Is there a service that will let me get the domains back for much cheaper? Namecheap is telling me the $200 is being charged by the registrar (enom) but I don't know if this really is the case. Could it be that this is going into Namecheap pocket? I screwed up by letting them expire, but $200 per domain, my god. |

I had to do that a couple years ago, and it was like $85 or something, so being $200 now isn't surprising to me. Sounds like you gotta suck it up, and pay it.

I would keep quiet about what they are and have a fellow GFY'r try to buy them when it is over or see about trying now for a lower price and pay the premium on that.

I'm curious about how this was resolved too.
Somecreep, it's not really a courtesy, as ICANN requires registrars to allow domains to be renewed during a thirty day redemption period. However, I think they allow registrars to charge whatever they want, so the prices are often ridiculously high. |

happened to me couple of months ago, I was asked to pay 90 bucks or so per domain, if I'm not mistaken it was Dotster though, not NameCheap

thats normal practice these days with registrars to get them out of the redemption period they charge pretty hefty fees your best to just backorder all the domains and let them drop completely usually takes about 72 days. it's better than having to pay anywhere from 150-200 per domain. I ran into this same problem a few months ago and thought the same thing WHAT ARE THEY FUCKING CRAZY...
you'll get first shot at renewing them anyway after the redemption period the previous owner gets first dibs on the domain not sure how long that period lasts ask your registrar
