Oh holy shit! C&VG is still around... I used to get that when they included a few pages of BASIC code to code your own stuff instead of an attached DVD LOL.

I'm not sure if CDrom was already supported back then since most programs were in those large floppy disks.

How can I forget the floppy disk drive (5 & 1/4) and the dot matrix printers. :)

SGS 02-10-2006 01:44 AM

Atari 400 back in 1979/80 and eventually went for the external cassette player for programs that didnt come on a cartridge.

Dot matrix was cutting edge when you were used to a "golfball" printer that needed a pair of ear defenders to use. :)

iwantchixx 02-10-2006 02:50 AM

I was farting around with Amiga back in those days. Win 3.x was shit compared to what the Workbench OS was capable of. Hell, even with no OS the damn thing ran games sweetly froma boot floppy and had pretty good framerates for what the hardware was.

Damian_Maxcash 02-10-2006 03:05 AM

I had a XT that ran only DOS with WordPerfect - none of this WYSIWYG wordproccesor crap - you had to try and imagine what it would look like.

Then I upgraded and got windows 3.11 and started a BBS using 'Cheetah' software I think - I managed to hook it up to email and was about the first person in town with an email address.

It was about 3 months before anyone emailed me - I nearly wet myself when I got it. It was test123 message from America, I couldnt believe it had come all the way over the ocean lol

I think 4 Meg RAM, may have been 2

care to guess how much it cost?

Mine was pretty close to that... I had a Tandy 2500 SX... screaming fast 25Mhz cpu, 80 meg harddrive, 1 meg of ram with Dos 5.0 and Windows 3.0.

After it got old and many of the sectors were bad on the HD, I wiped it out and started running my BBS on it with my screaming fast 2400 baud modem.

everestcash 02-10-2006 06:13 AM

yeah i remember those days, was like yesterday

picsmasters 02-10-2006 06:22 AM

MaDalton 02-10-2006 08:06 AM

J3XO 02-10-2006 09:39 AM

I was using Corel Draw 2 .. blown away because it had lotssss of fonts and I could see it onscreen .. unlike Adobe Type Manager and Pagemaker ... on my paper white monitor ... running Stacker software for more drive space

psili 02-10-2006 09:44 AM

I remember using 3.11 for workgroups and running this HP desktop manager a university computer tech guy gave me. The multi-virtual desktops were sweet.
