Need Help Moving to CA.LA...Where live?

Hey guys and gals. I just got news that I am going to be moving to CA. The LA area is where we need to be because it is with my producer and he needs to be near the music biz.

I am from Boston origainally and have lived in NYC for almost 3 years.

I am not to familiar with the top places to live in CA.

We need a big house 4+ bedroom with pool. It needs to be pimpin. Any suggestions?

Thanks

LA is huge, man. You want to be near Hollywood? The Valley? Are you ready to pay?

How about Santa Monica?

You can live in the valley for cheaper, but it gets pretty hot in the summer and it's not on the beach.

I'm sure someone will tell you what's up.

LA is a big place! Sure you can find some room!

Personally I think San Diego is the pimpin place to be! But some like SunSet Strip in LA!

Hope it helps!

East LA is nice - especially if you are a gun collector, you may have a chance to fire off a few rounds while someone runs off with your stereo!

A 4-bedroom, "pimpin" house, with a pool can be quite expensive. LA is huge, so there's a lot of variety, but if you plan on renting that type of house near Hollywood then plan on spending some bucks.

Alternatively, you could get something like that out in the 909 for cheap, but you'd be 60-90 minutes away from everything.

You might want to start here:

Try Venice -- right on the beach -- just south of Santa Monica... This is where they film just about everything you see on TV these days -- every time you see something on TV at the beach in LA -- 99.99% of the time it's right on Venice beach -- that's where Baywatch was... As for music biz people -- probably the more down-to-earth people are near Silverlake, Echo Park area... but the real big money in the creative sector is happening around Venice...

...think about where you are going to commute though (if you are going to commute at all) -- because the traffic can be bad at certain hours... Venice is real close to the I10 and 90 freeways which is nice.

If you need a nice studio to stay in for a few months while you decide what you want to buy -- (cheaper than hotels) -- my girlfriend is moving out of her place in Pasadena this month. You could move in sometime in May -- and move out July or August w/ option to renew. Her place is pretty nice $750/month -- bay window in front, wood floors, very close to the 134, 110, and 210 freeways... and you can usually get downtown in 15-30 mins -- and to the beach in about 45mins. You are near a really beautiful park (Arroyo Park) -- they got horseback riding, archery, tennis club, golfing, jogging trail, baseball field... It's near all the fancy Colorado shopping, resturants, bars, and there is an excellent art museum 2 blocks away (Norton Simon Museum) -- this museum has way better contemporary art than the Getty if you are into art.... anyway her apartment is adjacent to a large business campus so there's some nice landscaping and parking... let me know if you are interestd ICQ#1622420

There are only 4 apartments in this building -- these are the only pics I have now...

I just moved to LA from Seattle a few months back and here is what I've found.

Santa Monica you'll find the pimpin' pads but your going to pay for it.

Try westsiderentals.com, pay the fee it's worth it

It also depends on where you need to be close too and what kind of people you want to be surrounded by. There's a place to live that will fit any budget you have.

Hit me up on ICQ when you get down here, 1851935

Back in my film days I lived about 2 blocks south of Windward ave...my apartment looked right over Muscle Beach and the basketball courts.

Man I tell you that was the life.

If you can live anywhere near the beach you will be that much happier.

I suggest Venice...Manhattan, Hermosa or Redondo.

Thanks for all the serious replies. Westsiderentals.com looks good.

The house is going to be used as a live work stuation. I do production cordination and Business development for a NY music producer. He has done Pink, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey etc.

The Apt we live in now is a good sized place by Manhattan standards. 1,000 sq ft 2BD flex 3BD 2BA Doorman, gym etc. $2,900 per month 4 blocks from WTC

One recent problem we had was noise complaints. We have the Studio set up in one of the bedrooms. Got too loud for the neighbors.

We were always intending on getting studio space at Chung King House of Metal. $3,500 per month

So if we can consolidate the studio cost and living cost we can afford to spend around $5,000+ on a house. We have 4 guys that will be living there plus we need space for the studio.

Do houses in CA have basements? Not sure do to Earthquakes. I have been on the East Coast my whole life so I am being honest when I ask the question.

More info in terms of Location. I was told by my boss that we want to be in the west LA area. Is this a good place?

Most of the Music studios are in North HollyWood.

If anyone has any more info based on the new details please post.

I appreciate all the help.

lol, no they don't have basements!!

You really should fly out and drive around to see the different areas. Since you got a nice bankroll you can find what you want within budget I imagine.

West LA is very nice, and from your budget, you'll have no problem finding a place, albeit Bel-Air or something like that. Yeah, most of the music studios are in N.Hollywood, but only local musicians really live out there, too. ;) West LA will put you right by the 405 FWY, and being able to commute at your convenience, I'm assuming, you could easily travel non-peak times and get to N.Hollywood in 15-20 minutes. Venice is a little more Hip, though, while W. LA is trendy and politically correct. $5k a month would get you a sweet place, though just about anywhere. Echo Park, is a great music scene, but mostly alternative/rock scene, and it sounds like you guys are into more top40/R&B type stuff, so either W.LA or Venoce for you guys, would be good.

I've lived all over this fucked city, so Icould easily tell you if you should stear claer of anything that you found or not. WestsideRentals.com is allright, but with your budget, get a Real Estate Agent.

Peace,
Turbo
