Let me clarify what I meant...Persia = Iran

Many immigrants from Iran fear bigotry/hatred/persecution by saying they are Iranian, so they instead tell people they are Persian.

That is not the reason at all. People from the country of Iran are Persians, have always been. They don't say it out of fear of persecution, they say it out of pride.
