Actually I LOVED him in the movie FOOTLOSE. He was much SKINNIER back then, and he was the guy that Kevin Bacon taught how to dance :-)

(AP) Actor Chris Penn, brother of Sean Penn, was found dead Tuesday at a condominium near the beach in Santa Monica, police said.

Police said they discovered the 40-year-old actor's body around 4 p.m. Lt. Frank Fabrega said there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Sean Penn's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, issued a statement saying that "the Penn family would appreciate the media's respect of their privacy during this difficult time."

Chris Penn's body was found inside the four-story condominium complex after police were called by someone from within the building, Fabrega said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, authorities said.

Chris Penn's credits included "Mulholland Falls," "Rumble Fish," "All the Right Moves," "Footloose" and "Rush Hour." He also played Nice Guy Eddie Cabot in the 1992 Quentin Tarantino crime drama "Reservoir Dogs."

His late father, Leo Penn, directed television shows. His mother, Eileen Ryan, is an actress whose credits include "I Am Sam," "Magnolia" and "Parenthood." Another brother is musician Michael Penn.

Chris Penn's latest film, "The Darwin Awards," was scheduled to premiere Wednesday at the Sundance Film Festival.

True Romance was one of my favorite movies.

eroswebmaster 01-24-2006 11:33 PM

'tis a shame.

Thing is I was just telling my family that we've had some expected deaths as of late. People who are getting up there in years, and was wondering when someone who was much younger, and you wouldn't expect to pass would go.

I'm sure it either had to do with his weight, or drugs, or a combination of the both.

These guys live hard, party harder and even when they clean up the toll on their bodies is something they can't run from.

I was eating at Dan Tana's in LA years ago and he was eating at a table across from us. He was overweight back then too and chowing down food like there was no tomorrow. RIP

I went down to Izzy's Deli to grab a sandwich and the word is there that he shot himself. Not saying it is true but they do know him at that place and doubt the employees would tell people that if they did not have good info.

xclusive 01-25-2006 12:57 AM

Damn RIP always liked him

KCat 01-25-2006 02:18 AM

I think Chris and Sean Penn looked about as much alike as the Quaid brothers...

This guy here is Michael Penn, also their brother. He does a lot of music. You might recall seeing him as Dirk Digglers Producer in "Boogie Nights". He did most of the music for the movie.

True Romance and Reservoir Dogs are two of my favorite movies. I always liked Chris Penn as an actor. What's scary is he is my age and now gone...

RIP Chris Penn

Yep, I loved that movie. And he was so believable as a less than intelligent, country boy.
RIP Chris.

Me and a few friends ate a late dinner with him after clubbing many years ago at the "Pantry" in downtown L.A. (he was very coked up) I have seen him in "JERRY'S FAMOUS DELI" Studio City, about 20x over the years. Willing to bet it was a suicide because his moods swung up and down a 100x during dinner.

Manowar 01-25-2006 11:02 AM

Thats sad. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him a few years ago at a private party. He was a very cool guy with no celebrity nignags.

Hollywood will miss him.
