50 albums that aren't as good as illinois ;)

Maxy 01-24-2006 01:50 AM

No actually, I've been ignorant to the pornographers, and newman, and neko case until twin cinema....and the hype didn't serve it well, so i never checked out the rest...what are the other albums like?

SilverTab 01-24-2006 01:52 AM

SilverTab 01-24-2006 01:56 AM

I like it so far man! (sufjan)... sounds good to me!...

It's.. i dunno.. better harmonies and hooks? more stylistical whole?... type "miracle drug" into amazon for a free mp3.. although it's not the best on the album.. sign up at allofmp3.com and give it a good listen & buy.. or maybe last.fm and try and pick "out on the table" & "most of us are prize fighters" and try and listen. I don't really do filesharing. maybe it's easier that way.

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:00 AM

New pornographers is definitly more some kind of power-pop...whatever it is...I like it :)

Neither album is great all the way through (what album is these days?), but there are bright spots.

If you were a Smashing Pumpkins fan around 1997, you'll remember they started experimenting with electronic sounds. This Corgan album seems to be a continuation of that. It's nothing like Zwan or the last couple Pumpkins albums.

The Oasis album is carried by Noel's two songs. Liam isn't bad, but the style of this album is unlike what they've done in the past and it's always going to be hard to beat how he sounded on Morning Glory.

Is the pope catholic? :) yeah i kinda accidentally left them off my list.. I ignored them for a while but on the strength of repeated exposure to the single's videoclip on late night rage (music vid program here) i eventually bought the CD. It's good shit. Slower growing but the better for it.

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:01 AM

Matt: You just did 3k hehe

Maxy 01-24-2006 02:02 AM

im really an album person, I can't really listen to artists who don't have albums that are good from beginning to end. I don't use shuffle..reminds me of the radio. Are there any albums from that crew that are solid that i should check out?

Twin Cinema was hyped up to be that crew's crowning achievement thus far, so after dismissing that, I never looked into anything else...

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:03 AM

Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) is one of my favorite song EVER...

just writting the name is giving me chills....I listen to that song in some good headphones, with the volume cranked up, and Im flying...

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:05 AM

I don't even think these sick bastards are remotely capable of writing a bad song.

You must get it now. You must get it now. You must get it now. You must get it now. You must get it now. You must get it now.

Oh my god im just thinking about the songs on that thing... No Cars Go, My Heart Is An Apple, Headlights Look Like Diamonds...oh my god I wish I had it on my ipod for the drive home :(

Hehe give it another couple of spins.. i was hooked after the 3rd time..
Oh yeah.. the motherfucking shins.. put it this way... im the biggest candy ass sweet tooth motherfucker here. If it's harmonic pop i've either got it or im sooo ignorant I desperatly need to be told because i'll buy it asap like a jonesing junky.

Do you know anything poppier than

The La's
AC Newman
Beulah
Neutral Milk Hotel
Apples in Stereo
?

Let me know :)

Also I think you'd like animal collective.. great pop lines hidden in a kinda more distorted arcade fire type layered sound.

Slow wonder is a great album.. but there are always stand out tracks.. even illinois tones it's greatness right down after wasps.. it's better than twin cinema.

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:15 AM

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:16 AM

You should upload some tracks off Sung Tongs for silvertab. I love 'We Tigers'..it's so fuckin manic, ..and 'College' which I show to my mom when she asks me to go back to shool :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

And Of Course 'Who Could Win A Rabbit'..with it's fuckin crazy ending

"Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow(kitties)

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeowwww (kitties!)"

Jesus im about to start running around this 12k square foot data center pretending to be a giraffe.

Best GFY thread ever.

Maxy 01-24-2006 02:44 AM

Silvertab, I'll give them a download when I get home, I just read a comparison of them to The Birthday Party which I totally love. As I do most shit Nick Cave writes.

SilverTab 01-24-2006 02:46 AM

There is definitly some screaming throughout the album though...

the song that I uploaded is one of the smoothest one...

Foo Fighters

The Go Team! - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=glance&n=5174

The most unique sound i`ve heard in a loong time. Mix of early hip hop, 70`s funk and fucking action theme songs. It`s something similar to the The Avalanches but way more harmonic. The use of retro sounds blend just perfectly. With most albums i usually like 3-4 songs tops, but here every damn song is so addictive.

Sarah_Jayne 01-24-2006 03:37 AM

Kaiser Chiefs - Employment.

In my view by far the best album of 2005.
