My question to a guy like you who has been shooting since '97 would be "what does work and what does not?"

you shouldn't have invested so much time & money if you didn't know how to get traffic.

How come nobody has mentioned Flapjacks to this guy yet?

Easily the single most important piece of software to be on your server. Without it, you are at risk of loosing too much money.

I haven't invested much at all. Pretty much everything about this so far has been cheap. Nothing has been suprisingly costly, at least in my opinion.

I have looked around, and I see what the folks who are trying to sell their products say... the guy who sells traffic says his stuff works best, the TGP's say they are the best...yada, yada, yada.

I was looking for some person who actually knows what works.

For example, as I stated earlier, I advertised both in online automotive forums and in national print media (car magazines). The web advertising was cheap, about $200 per month. The magazine ads were about $1200-1500 per month. Now, 90 percent or more of my business came from the web forum advertising, so guess where I decided to spend more of my ad dollars???

That's the kind of real world information I am looking for here. But it doesn't seem that any one has it.

Problem is there is no one magic bullet or set of figures anyone can give you, and if they claim they can run!
Everything works and nothing works, depends a great deal on the circumstances, what your pushing, how your pushing it, your experience, your budget, and to some it may seem the phases of the moon.

I know I just responded in this thread yet my response seems to have went poof.

Nevermind delay in actual response it seems.

get a content management system, so you can just plug all the content into it, tell it when to automatically update your site, and your paysite will run on autopilot

www.sitedepth.com is what I might suggest

Of course not, I understand this. I am simply looking for real examples and real experience. Plus, I'm not one to hear what someone says and just jump in and do what they did.

Let me help you decide what kind of experience I have in this way:
  • I worked in the entertainment business for a number of years, TV/Movies
  • I designed an automotive intake for a particular late model engine, the LS1.
  • Started selling that item while still working in "the biz" (Howard Stern Show at that time)
  • built an aftermarket auto parts business around that product that became so successful I had to leave film
  • helped several others develop websites selling various products and services

Now, because of my successes in internet business, I have been asked over the last few years to help a few different gals set up somthing on the internet. I never really was very interested because, quite frankly, I didn't think most of them were very marketable, i.e. not hot enough for my tastes. Nice girls, but nice doesn't sell.

So when I was approached this time I felt they had something to offer to some viewers, because they are hot and dynamic. Having both a background in entertainment and online business, I thought I would give it a shot.

After Shock Media, you seem to have a head on your shoulders, so thanks for the replies. I will set up ICQ on my other computer when I get a chance and get with you, because this computer does not like ICQ at all (or YM or AIM). It has an AVID DV Xpress w/ Mojo DNA that is a bit sensitive with messenger software and screensavers.
