Telemarketers and Cell Phones

JUST A REMINDER....In a few weeks, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. ..YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS...
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS OR GO TO: Do Not Call Registry

I had heard that Verizon was not participating in this.

Is that no longer true?

I like the bill collectors who have the wrong number and insist on calling daily. The ones that say 'please hold for a very important phone call' (insert 2 minutes of elevator music here while on hold).

I'm to the point now that I have an emimem song ready to play for when they call me. When they finally answer, I say 'please hold for important customer message' and turn on the music and just leave it till they hang up! lol

Since most of the Telemarketing companies are located here in Canada ( so as the one have worked for before) The National No call list does not help much.

I'm glad I don't live in the US, and don't have to get those calls!

I believe that because US cell phones have the same style of numbers as landlines it's the receiver that pays for inbound calls. The caller cannot be expected to pay timed charges because they would not know in advance whether they're calling a call or landline.

In Australia cell (mobile) numbers are in a completely different number range and format, so the caller knows they're going to be time charged...

so how would the recieved know whether the caller is using a cell or landline? neither will know so that sounds strange to me... us is different from the rest of the world again?
