            Close all windows but one
            make sure the status-bar is there
            press and hold "shift"
            Close the window by clicking on the "x" (and while keeping "shift" pressed down)

                Check the box show status bar. Close your browsers, open the browser and see if it's there...If so, close again, restart...

                Sounds strange, worked for me :D
