        cliff notes...

The government first wanted to seize records without understanding it would be nearly impossible to understand them without google first teaching them how they work thus passing along valuable propriety info.. ( actually it was a 2 part request 1 wanting info about searches and who does them , the second being to establish an "example" internet based on google content so they could build filters and such )

Then they decided/realised its going to be nearly impossible to track what certain people search int hat fashion so they just went for random samples of 10,000 urls from each of 100 google datacenters. But of course why would google just "give" them this info..

Basically the gov is saying " We notice google has been doing lots of work for years to build this database , now we want to steal it and use it for our own needs , and not compensate you "

true , but since it is an ACTUAL adult-industry thread , about a topic that may affect us all at some point.. i think this is one of the few times we can let it slide

actually, that's not the reason why the whitehouse wants that info. they're using porn as a reason to get what they want. what they really want is to see what users are looking up on certain days when news is reported. so if the news topic of the day is terrorist they want to see how many people are searching that topic then later will want who is search that topic.

porn is just an easy way to cover up what you really want.

nah.. i think they wanted it for the exact reasons in the documents.. AND i think it was supposed to a step for the gov to handshake google and get in a "sharing" relationship because they understand the "political" might of google.. it backfired because they are incompetant..

haha i just thought of something funny..

This is all prob because bush just noticed he showed up #1 for failure

I think its funny how everyone was saying after 9/11 "dont let the terrorists change you life, dont live your life in fear, stand strong blalblbalblalb" and here comes the homeland nazis doing exactly the opposite. How quickly we forget.

i have no idea if this is relevent or not, but the CIA publically announced a deal with Inktomi (now Yahoo search) back in 2002.

Did you know the CIA has a comany called 'In-Q-Tel' that invests in new technology companies? The 'public' deal was that the CIA would license the search technology for their own databses. but i'm sure there was more to it. if true, CIA is already "inside" Yahoo search. </tinfoil>

                                http://www.gcn.com/21_17/tech-report/19141-1.html

                                http://www.in-q-tel.com/about/index.htm

if In-Q-Tel invested in a major search engine, wouldn't the In-Q-Tel management be able to call some internal shots?
