    X Box or Playstation II

    I am thinking of getting my little brother either X Box, or PlayStation II. Ha maybe even Game Cube, but I think I have ruled that out.

    I have heard games for PSII are better, but XBox has more potential, I don't know.

    What do you guys think? His parents refuse to get him one, so I want this to be a total surprise.

                                  but for a kid i think PS2's better than xbox(just dont like microsoft much)...but PS2 games are so fucking expensive(saw them in stores )

                                      PSII games are about as pricey as those for the "X-Box!"...at least at "Best Buy" they are!

                                      I've played some demo games for the Xbox (Gotham City) and I've got to say the controllers for the xbox are very uncomfortable for anyone playing a long time.

                                      I'd go for the PSII...especially to play GT3!

In fact they have two PS2 (one is installed in my explorer with an 8 inch vid screen so they can play games or watch DVDs). By far they spend more time playing PS2 games then the few XBox games they have picked up. They've complained about the XBox controller too. I've heard that there as some out that are a bit more streamlined, but we haven't found them.

                                                              They are probably gonna want the Gamecube too because that has the Resident Evil series EXCLUSIVELY on that console as well as other cool Games that game God Shigeru Miyamoto puts out like the Mario and Zelda games!!

                                                                                  and "Metal Gear 2" to start with.

                                                                                  If they play any computer games you should buy them Counter-Strike.

                                                                                      I was one of the fools that waited out in the cold, in line for an Xbox a few months ago.

                                                                                      The Xbox is technically superior to the PSII, but the PSII just has so many great games already out that it is a hard call.

                                                                                      The few Xbox games that are out are awesome, and the ones that are on their way look fucking incredible. When Microsoft gets their network up for playing games over a broadband connection - the Xbox will be the way to go for sure.

                                                                                                  My brother bought a PS2. Haven't seen much, but what I have seen was pretty damn cool. My friend plays GTA3 for hours upon hours, probably wouldn't buy it for my brother though.

                                                                                                  What do you guys all think of FFX? I absolutely love FF7, but I got pretty bored with FFX. But then again, I only messed with it for an hour or so. Does it get better?

                                                                                                      I got my 8 year-old son both a PS2 and a Gamcube and he plays the Gamecube the most. When it comes to playing multi-player games with friends Gamecube has fun games like Super Smash Brothers Melee, Super Monkey Ball, and 007:Agent Under Fire (the Gamecube version has a MUCH better mutliplayer setup than the PS2 version). There are 4 controller plugs in the front vs. the PS2's 2 plugs. I have a 61" widescreen TV for the games so we always have a full house. Our neighbor has an Xbox with Halo and BloodWake which are cool games but the others we played were kinda lame. I myself prefer the PS2 for action games such as Maximo, Virtual Fighter 4, and GT3 but one drawback to the PS2 that I don't see with the Gamecube is that the edges on many objects look jagged and rough. When you play on a bigscreen it is really noticeable. The edges on objects in Gamecube are smoother although I think PS2 has better lighting.

                                                                                                      You can debate all day, but it comes down to deciding which system has the most games that you are going to want to play.

                                                                                                          In case you didn't know they now sell Japanese Xbox Controllers that are smaller (if you have small hands) also the madcats are smaller too but they don't hold up very well to alot of usage.

                                                                                                          I have a PS2 and ARS will be giving me a Xbox here in a week or so from points.

                                                                                                          The best thing about the xbox is playing Halo on 4 xboxs, nothing like it in consoles.

                                                                                                          Best game for me on PS2 is ATV Offroad Fury which is now $19.95 at Frys. If you want a 2+ player game nothing else competes.

                                                                                                              If you want to get our kid a Gamecube, get the japanese one with the USA mod chip, that way it plays dvd's and can play both american and japanese games.

                                                                                                              I believe the run $300-400 though, but worth it.

                                                                                                                      Well I just bought xbox and it is fucking amazing! The graphics are awsome, the sound is great, gameplay is great..

                                                                                                                      I got just 2 games with it (only had it a week!) - halo and project gotham racing.. fucking incredible.. its almost like watching tv instead of computer graphics.. so smooth, fast and realistic.

                                                                                                                      I played a couple of ps2 games a few months back and although they were cool they just didn't compare.. maybe it was just those games, I dunno..

                                                                                                                      While its true that there are not so many games for xbox yet you have to remember that its microsoft which means BIG MONEY is behind it - uncle bill will make sure that there will be loads of games soon enough! Trust in uncle bill ;)

                                                                                                                      In my opinion the xbox is something that microsoft actually got right first time.

                                                                                                                      Looking forward to the xbox broadband network thingy getting started.. that will be cool!

                                                                                                                      Oh and the built in vibrators are an added bonus..

Much like GTA, cept without the cars and the view is third person. (So what's the same?!) lots of mindless killing of civilians :D

                                                                                                                                              Get the xbox for, if nothing else, the game Halo. There is no console game that even comes close to comparing. Plus, you can play it online at gamespy.com. The neighbors kids around here are constantly hanging around my door waiting for me to get a game of Halo going. Either that or they are using that as an excuse to hang out with my daughter.

                                                                                                                                              The xbox is set to blow the psII out of the water. This reminds me so much of the Navigator/Explorer issue years ago. Everyone was talking about how Navigator was much better, well established, and blah, blah, blah, blah...we all see what happened.

                                                                                                                                              There is no game out there for the xbox, including Halo, that has used up HALF the capabilities of the xbox yet. It will take developers at least a year to come out with games that will begin to use all of the xbox resources. Basically, what it comes down to is that in a year, all of the games for the psII will be obsolete and way inferior to the xbox games. Yes, right now, psII has more games but that will not last.

                                                                                                                                              Just play Halo once or watch someone play it. That is all it will take to convince you.

                                                                                                                                                              Ok we have close to 40 posts, and maybe 3 people suggested the xbox and the rest are saying PS2.

                                                                                                                                                              Ps2 has at least 15 kick-ass games to date, and hundreds of other solid games.

                                                                                                                                                              xbox has Halo which is kick-ass, but nothing else to date which is good.

                                                                                                                                                              Either buy the ps2 system which has great games already, or buy the xbox and hope they make some good games.
                                                                                                                                                              IN 1-2 years, I'm sure both systems will have a newer version or some upgrade so It doesn't matter too much.
