Anyone see it? Starred George Clooney and was about the old news show featuring Ed R. Murrow. Focused on the McCarthy Era of the 50's during the witchhunt for 'Commies'.

I grew up way back when so for all of us who remember the Twilight Zone, this movie is like a Twilight Zone episode but real. Every minute I expected Rod Serling to step out and say something although the Zone didn't air til way after the McCarthy days but Serling was writing for tv back then.Originally posted by penzoI'm looking forward to seeing it, supposed to be very goodComment

Great fucking movie, and very topical with what is going on now.
Spying and such and all you have to do is call someone a terrorist instead of a commie and you get the same result.Comment

the movie is slow and methodical, but still very engaging. the acting is topnotch (not in the sonofsam drawing kind of way), there is tons of real macarthy footage in the movie...it feels VERY realistic...i learned quite a bit from this movie and still managed to really enjoy myself

This fact-based drama has much to say about the current state of journalism -- especially television journalism -- and the obligation of news media to challenge and criticize governmental actions.

i understand where you're coming from but disagree. imo, the obligation of the news media is to find the facts and report, without bias. that's the problem with mainstream media, they're just co-opted mouthpieces 99% of the time.Originally posted by Bluewire RossThis fact-based drama has much to say about the current state of journalism -- especially television journalism -- and the obligation of news media to challenge and criticize governmental actions.Arguing whether the Democratic or Republican party is better is like debating which steaming pile of shit is slightly less stinky.Comment

Right the fuck on!Originally posted by spanky part 2Great fucking movie, and very topical with what is going on now.

It's the same atmosphere as it was in the 50's. It's done that purposefully for control. Using terrorism as the new excuse to violate our birthrights for the purpose of theft of our intellectual properties and to use personal data for extortion.
Journalism began to become compromised again during the mid 80's under the gangsters that compormised the Reagan administration. If you have something some industrialist wants, they trump up charges against you to make a deal.
With the superweapons of today it becomes harder to fight back.
Yet all is not lost. Such predatory tactics always make the same mistakes.
Keep an eye on the next year. There will never be another one like it in human history.Comment
