Darnit, you know what you're talking about.
This is an issue (anxiety with panic attacks, depression) I had to deal with some years ago, and recently they've been cropping up again due to some changes I made in my life. I went and got some xanax and zoloft right away and I'm currently in the period waiting for the zoloft to kick in, which sucks. The good thing is that because I've had to deal with this before, I know it can be dealt with. It's a fairly minor illness and it's usually easily treated, but it doesn't feel that minimal to the person who suffers from it when they're in the throes of the problem. Anyone who's in the Las Vegas area who wants someone to talk to or just a safe place to hang out, or someone to hang out with who understands this shit is welcome to hit me up. I'm always good for a sympathetic ear or whatever help I can give you. All the success and money etc in the world doesn't help when your mind is playing tricks on you. I have financial success, I train BJJ, I'm in good shape, socially adept, etc and so on. You would think I would have no reason in the world to ever be unhappy but things like this aren't negotiable. When they hit you, you have a problem that has to be dealt with. Like Darnit said, it's a biological problem and it has to be dealt with that way. I believe I inherited it from my parents. You should no more blame yourself for this thing that you would if you had diabetes. It IS treatable though, and you can make it go away if you know how to get the right medical help. |
Xanax
But dont take it all the time and get hooked on it. |
My shrink told me this
"Pretend your a willow tree in a forest" and focus on that hehehe |

I've had them from time to time. How I deal with them depends on what's causing them. If it's around bedtime I get them, I will take a Xanex. 30 minutes, and bam. Lala land.
If it's during daylight, and I am having arrithithma, or something then I will read. As others have said, it takes enourmous amounts of concentration to do this. But your mind can only do so many things at once. If you force yourself to read, and can actually get into something, then you stop thinking about whatever else is going on, and your body will calm down. Atleast enough to function. I've also played a video game, and that will take my mind off it. Then when I stop playing things have sorted themselves out. If it's more serious, where I've had to go to the E.R.. Not much else I could do when in A-Fib.. but.. atleast using the reading technique keeps me from going bonkers til they cardiovert. Luckily, all this aside. I rarely get them. Most of the time the reading, video game, or Xanex if around bedtime will fix it. I, like others said, do not wanna get in the habit of taking Xanex, so it's for those special occasions. For me, breathing doesn't work. Neither does the physical activity. It just makes me more winded. Best thing to do is keep your mind busy on something other than thinking about, OH LAWD MY HEART'S RACING... :pimp |
Keep yourself busy or think of some funny memories. :)

[QUOTE=Headless]What tips or techniques do you use to calm yourself down?
I like to either get my mind completely off of what is causing it or I tell myself, "Jason SHUT THE FUCK UP" Quote:

I can totally flip out or say nasty things when I have those moments so I try to excuse myself to the restroom or at least get away from people to get some fresh air.
