Anyone here work out of Canada?

Does anyone on here work/live in Canada and get paid by US affiliate programs? Is it all gravy or does it make things more complicated?

I'm moving up to Canada from Florida within the next year or so and im a little worried about taxes and stuff of that nature

You're a damn fool!
You'll be back within a year.
Unless of course you used to live in a cold weather climate.

i was born in canada but i doubt it makes any difference. banks will cash US checks no problem most of the time. some times when going to a new bank they are hesitant but if you can prove to them you've been doing it for a good while with no problems, it should be fine.

At TD Canada Trust American cheques take a month to clear. I get all my stuff wired now so I never looked into it too much, but I assume this is the same at all Canadian banks?

I deposit US cheques into my canadian account easily.. and get an extra 10% or so for the exchange. Shouldn't be any problems.

Establish a relationship with your branch. Ask the teller to remove your holds.

I've been with TD for 14 years. I've had one single USD cheque held (the first one I deposited). Now, I can deposit USD cheques at the Green Machine with no holds, and they credit me the exchange a few days later.

I just opened a new account at BMO. They did a credit check, I came up "High Profile" whatever that means, and they seem to clear anything right away for me.

Everything's kosher working in Canada and getting paid by US companies, although expect to wait upwards of 25 days for the funds to clear. Also, depending on your income level, you may have to pay GST on income from Canadian sponsors, so get a good accountant once you move up here to help you familiarize yourself with local differences.

Working in Canada and being paid by US companies is good because you make a few points on the conversion. It's not as good as it was about 4 years ago but its still ok.

It is still income and you still have to declare it. Yes you can hide it by being paid by epassport but whats the point? As a company you NEED expenses otherwise you'll be taxed on it. If you declare your expenses but don't have the income to support it the government will be all over you. If you have a legit business here, do the right thing and pay your taxes. It's easy enough to get back, and the government will gladly give you the reach-around when you need them. Taxes are on the high side but you get some decent value for it. Plus if you're a technology company there are even better reasons to move your company here. In other words, they like the fact that you're technology-based, and don't care if you're technology also happens to involve porn.

If you have legal questions about running a porn business in Canada or just need help with incorporation, contact Ken Zigby at Zigby.com and he'll assist you.

Canadian tax rates on corporations isn't too bad, if you have enough income it is worth the effort. Personal tax rates (and tax rates on personal DBAs / registrations) can run as high as 50%, so you do want to do that if you have a good level of income.

If you are taking in net more than about 40k, it is really worth it to incorporate.

Research other foreign options first unless you have a really good reason to head north. You're not far from the fuckin megacenter of offshore tax havens
