Man, adopting a cat is harder than adopting a child!

I understand the humane society wanting to be sure the cat goes to a good owner and not just end up abandoned again but damn... what a process!

interviews, paper work... they wanted to know our incomes, how much we're going to budget for the cat, they checked my current AND previous vets to see how well I take care of the cat I have now... they wanted to know about previous pets... the state of our household... yatta yatta yatta.

So after making sure my cat had all necessary shots, check ups and what not, I had to pay an additional $120 just for the new cat I'm "adopting" (their term for purchasing)... and I finally get the cat over a week later.

All this for a 3+ year old cat already.

They're damn lucky that I have a soft spot for wanting to help strays... cause the hoops almost makes it not worth it.

That's why we finally said screw it and gave up. If we want a cat again, we'll get one from the freaking newspaper.. it's stupid.

Did they call your landlord (if you rent) and ask if you are approved to have a pet in your place?

All the cats I have adopted in the past have only take a few minutes. Just fill out a form and pay them and its good to go.

When I get back from Phoenix in April I am planning on adoptting two kittens. I read a bunch of stuff on the local cat rescue pages and I am dredding the process and the home visit. I appreciate they need to make sure they are going to good homes but I too am getting tempted to just look in the paper.
