Smoking banned in all UK pubs

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4709258.stm

What a pile of fucking shit. I can really see this being inforced in alot of bars I go to....NOT

There are plenty of non smoking bars why cant people that dont want to smoke go there?

Most pathetic part is that they are considering a ban in private members bars. Uf you dont like smoke dont join a smoking privaate members club.

Fucking retards.

Prepare for the "what about the people that work there", "who cares smoking is bad" and so on BS.
Just remember non smokers can not be inconvenienced and their every whim must be catered to, they should not have to go to a smoke free place. Everywhere should be one.
I mean after all nobody can really trust competition to fix this issue.

That's great news. I bet you smoke, but imagine that only a little percentage of people would smoke, woudn't it be great?

We've had it here in my city for two years now. It isn't enforced in most any small bar or club.

Restaurants are another story.

So why are you so angry about this law?
This law isn't harmful for anyone, actually it's helpful for lots of people.

I gave up smoking 1 month ago exactly - from 70 cigs per day to NONE.

I still think ppl should be allowed to smoke tho - and non smokers like me can go wherever they like - and avoid whereever they like.

True, no need to advertise smoking for the youth. People don't need smoking, it doesn't give anything. Alcohol is another talk as it's a good way to relax, people must to relax time to time.

Ok, you may be concerned about the rights of other smokers. But do you know that the majority of smokers would like to quit smoking if they could? Laws like this help to do that and even reduce the number of smokers in the future.

For a while it was nice to come home from the bars and not have to smell like an ashtray.

But even then, I thought "No Smoking" in the bars was a bit much.

There's a town here in the San Diego area that is about to pass... "No smoking in public". That means, no sidewalks, streets, parks.... only at home and in your yard.

To everyone that is fine with this or even happy.

Please give me one good reason why it must be forced and competition can not handle this?

To be honest when I go to a pub here I expect people to be smoking so either way the vote went I would have been okay. I am alergic to smoke and have a really hard time breathing in most pubs so it will just be odd to beable to be in one for more than an hour before I have to leave.

One thing I would have been okay with is banning smoking at the actual bar...not the whole pub. That would protect the staff from having it in their face the majority of the time.

Not at all. When I go to a bar and have a couple of beers I want a cigarette. Why do I have to go out to smoke? Lets just make both smoking and non-smoking areas. Why violate the rights of smokers? The point is not about banning, the point is about realizing that smoking is bad.

i wouldnt mind smoking being banned everywhere here in the states except the bars. people go to the bars to unwind and drink, smoke, shoot some pool, etc

im ex-smoker, so i know both worlds & i take both sides.

maybe they should just ban cigerettes and save some lives. (ya right, like that will ever happen.)

its fucking stupid. Every month or so some politician wants to ban this or that because its somehow unhealthy.

In a few 100 years we'll all be driving 50km/h on freeways in a toyota prius, cant smoke anywhere, cant have alcohol, etc. etc.

Life is about living, but as time goes by and rules pile up it gets more and more unlivable.

They banned smoking in bars and restaurants here in Spain,
but ofcourse being Spain they did it half way and said all bars over 100m2
It just so happens 2% of all bars and restaurants are that big so you can still smoke almost anywhere

Then they decided to raise the price, and again they can't do things properly and raised it 0.25hahaha8364;, the tobacco importers then went and lowered it even more than the government had raised it, now a pack that used to cost 2.55hahaha8364; costs 2hahaha8364;

Addictive has nothing to do with it.
I also could make the very same arguments towards alcohol.

I no longer smoke, but this is just something that goes hand in hand with the "bar scene". If I don't like it, there have always been places to go that were 100% smoke free...I could just go there.

Pub culture in the UK is a bit different than bar culture in the States. This is a country when some pubs allow kids in because it is such a big part of people's routines.

Getting used to the new habits doesn't take very long After a year, you would wonder how people could have entertain at a place filled with smokes.

You are wrong. I used to have 20 a day smoking habit. Now I smoke only when I have some booze. And not because I'm addicted or I want SMOKING. I go out, I want to relax, to have a beer, smoke 2-3 cigarettes and that's it. A pack of cigarettes lasts for 5-6 weeks. And this is my fucking choice. Let's ban everything harmful: fast food, alcohol, guns, abortions, chemical industry.

Congrats, you are the one of those few luckers who can smoke occasionaly.
If most pople could do that, none of similar laws would be released.

Being a non-smoker I love the way this turned out... what im not happy with is the infringment of public rights.

Why couldn't bars/pubs/clubs make smoking/non-smoking areas.. would of been alot less taxing.

For what it's worth 80% of 11,000+ people polled about it supported the total ban - so many smokers think it a good idea too.

You have to love the fucking idiots who try to draw comparisons with other shit such as the cocaine example above. They totally missed the reason the ban was introduced in the first place.

Personally I think it a great move. Smokers and idiots without the intelligence to see the bigger picture are the only ones who can't undertsand that 'civil liberties' etc don't just apply to smokers.

Civil liberties apply to bar owners. If a bar owner wants to allow people to smoke in his bar, and he puts a nice big "People smoke here" sign above the door, why the fuck should the government want to put a stop to that?

Other bar owners can just as well make their bars "no smoking", and people who don't like smoke can go to those.

The big picture here: the government takes away citizens right to choose.

I personally agree with this. However, some of you who think you have a right to go to a bar and have a smoke are stupid. Why do you feel entitled to make people around you inhale your stinky shit just because you need it to relax?

Are you fucking kidding me? Alcohol is another talk because people relax? Seriously, use your head.

Ever see a bunch of guys sit around with a packet of smokes, smoke them all, then fight, cry and hug each other?

Does anyone ever finish off a pack of Marlboro's and go home in a rage and beat their wife?

How about having too many cigarettes and going for a drive?

What do you think kills more people worldwide each year: Drunk Driving or Second Hand Smoke?

Alcohol is arguably one of the WORST evils as far as public health and safety goes. Wake up.
