This is how I look at the show.

The show for Wegcash was a success. Were the Internext booths a viable success? I have no idea, it seemed slow, but that doesn?t mean it didn?t work out for those who set up. One specific booth downstairs tried to sell us a pretty large deal, they had a great product; I know one thing, if we were to buy it, trust me, that booth would be paid for. My point is that it is all relative. But I am not a booth supporter in the first place, they tie you down and most people don?t want to be on the show floor anyway.

As far as attendance goes, I think it was pretty high. Most people seemed to be there. Most of our larger clients attended and I met a lot of new webmasters. Our goals at show Wegcash are pretty simple:

1) Current clients: If our current clients are contacting us that they are going to a specific show, it is likely we will go. They are our bread and butter, it only makes sense to sit down with them and talk about the program as well as have a dinner, take them to a bar, buy them a drink, whatever. We enjoy the face-to-face feedback, it is what makes our program the successful program it is today.

2) Make new contacts. Simply put, we want to make new contacts with webmasters and other programs. We want to increase our traffic and we also want to discuss future opportunities for our program.

How do I try to accomplish this? Well, the first thing that I do is add in any contact numbers of people I know I need to talk with prior to leaving and let them know I intend to contact them at the show. I also go ahead and make some sort of reservation for a group. At this show, we took some clients to the AVN Awards. Past shows have included bars, dinners, etc. I also make sure I use my connections for things. For example, a lot of webmasters may show up wanting into a club; I am usually a call away from taking care of that for them (Vegas was an excellent example of this). Someone may need a room last minute? That happens

I have a pretty extensive contact list in my phone; I use it often.

Drinking at shows? Is this a problem? Well, if it is, you need to get over it. I have seen a lot of post condemning those that go out late at night as not being business oriented. People, with all due respect, many of the largest webmasters in this industry are out until 6am. Being an idiot is one thing, but if you are depending on the show floor alone for business, I really think you could do better. Many webmasters with a lot of traffic enjoy the Vegas nightlife, this has nothing to do with adult. Honestly, I wake up at about noon at shows, my plan is to be able to stay out until the late hours of night while still taking in a couple hours of the show floor (if needed).

I am not saying that I am great at what I do; I am just offering a little different perspective. Was the show floor great? I don?t know, I didn?t have a booth. Was the show great? Yes, it was. Was I out late? Did I drink? Yes on both. Is that a problem? Well, if taking out future and potential clients for a few nights of events they may not get to partake in depending on where they are from normally is a problem, then I suppose it is. At the end of the day, my contact list looks damn good, so I will stick with what works.

This is Vegas, people want to do things that happen into the very late night hours.

John (John Skorik, Vice President) and I tend to split up at shows, one night he may have our clients out for a nice dinner, while I may be at an event meeting new people. Any of you that came out with me after the Jungle Bash likely have a good idea how we operate.

But hey, I am not here to disclose the way I (or we) do business, I just wanted to set the record straight that maybe people don?t like certain shows because they don?t really approach them in a logical way. I am not trying to offend anyone, just offering perspective. My cell phone number is on my business card, and my number is simple to get if you email me or even ask someone. Finding someone you want to talk with is all that counts, I don't care if a booth is setup or not.

Hope you don't mind the rant,

On behalf of John and I, it was great seeing everyone at the show.

Take Care,

Cory.

I am not sure if I have heard from anyone that went that wasn't able to do business if that is what they were there for.

If they were there for something else, then it is hard to say if their expectations were realized or not.

Personally, I had a good time, and did good business.

I think you guys miss the point, that the internext shows aren't designed so GFY and it's regulars can get together once, or twice a year.

They aren't just designed for those who have an extensive contact list in their phones..etc.

They are designed to draw in new business, or to connect those already in this business together, those that may not be members of our little pond here, those who's contact list may be short or non-existent.

Not trying to throw a negative spin on things, but just because people did business, does not mean the show and I mean INTERNEXT met it's goals or was succesfull, even tho' you may have been.

How don't see how it was designed in such a way? I mean, is it supposed to cater to those that do not know anyone? And if yes, I have a difficult time believing they can't go to the floor and meet someone that will help them get into an event? I also don't know what AVN should do about that? They post the event list, if someone wants to go, they have to at least know a rep at a company that would help them?

I think I missed your point.....sorry.

Just debating...

My point is the show is to bring together all forms of business in existence from programs that are dinosaurs, to programs that are infants.

And if Internext does not meet it's goals in providing a decent ROI for it's exhibitors then they don't lease again the next year...the show gets smaller, less and less people show up.

So while you show up with your extensive contact list of those you already know, your success is not measured by the shows success but by your own determination and work.

My point being, that will not keep INTERNEXT open and running in years to come.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it swim.

How do you make webmasters attend? Or make those that attend, but are too shy to say anything speak up?

Shows are what you want them to be. Party animals are going to party. Business people will do business. Baddog will take nonstop pictures of his nose hairs and fresh meat young enough to be his grand-daughters. JFK will snap his pictures of dark corners and sexy nude women. AVN will award those they like and those that pay them...not those who did the best work.

Cory, if your company is making money for your affiliates and those who work for and/or with you, why do they need to be pampered? That's bullshit. Hustling is not necessary. It sounds to me like you are justifying staying out all night and kissing ass. Stop trying to be the moderator. Grow some hair in your nose and pose with Baddog.
