Why do shows need booths do to business with eachother?

newbies cant afford to pay Internext prices and those of us who have been around a while already know each other..
I like the shows that are a party and fun so I can bond and get to know people on a personal level. If I need to get a hold of someone all I have to do is hit them up on ICQ, phone or some board to do biz and close the deal.

everything we do is online I can even buy my content online now dont need to go to some booth.

do you think the Internext booth style shows will survive another year?

Why dont the online programs/sites have all the pornstars and exclusive girls they have at the shows like the video side of the biz? for the fans to meet?

I like somewhere in the middle. There is no biz to be done at loud parties where you have to scream just to hear each other, laid back events are a different story.

They make money selling booth space and there's always companies who rent them, so I think they'll survive for some good time

Roger you're a long-time veteran of the industry so you do see things from a very mature and experienced perspective.

Shows are good for certain purposes and the Internext show I suppose used to be about a lot more than it is now.

I'm not as involved in the industry as most since we're a fringe company. I do business both mainstream and with adult programs, all in all about 50-50 so these shows, the larger ones in particular are espeically good for me to do business at.

The show was poorly timed and planned. If i were there to meet webmasters I wouldn't attend again.

There was a point in time that you could justify the expense through new business. I'd say that's no longer possible for most companies.

A lot of programs have downsized their booths and yet it still seems like a pissing match for some companies.

Bang Bros of course also sells DVDs but they are still thought of as an internet company by most people and they had a booth the last 2 years. They may have actually had the "best" booth of anyone. Also Duke was there right next to the Evil Angel booth.

I think that within a few years there will be many more companies exibiting at AEE who got their start on the net.

I like to Party and get to know people I do biz with on all levels.

I just think having a booth now and days unless your trying to appeal to the fans for branding is worthless. thats what the video side is about branding to consumers like all the other shows. not B2B

Internext is full of bull. I agree with RogerV. We all know each other so the only good thing is the party. I think Internext should be free.

I make more money overall by offering a lower join price and making it up on increased volume.

Maybe they would too.

Booths are pretty much a waste of time, imo. If you're stuck in your booth, and the people that make decisions are stuck in their booths, well, that doesn't make for an easy setup to do business.

When the booths did have a purpose you would get bombarded with a ton of people at once and if you couldnt give everyone the same attention they would get upset. plus 90% of the time you never closed the deals you wasted time talking about for many reasons.

it was a great place to give away free shit thats about it.

All booths are for is for no name people to come up and spam you with their own shit. On the other hand, people who really want to talk to you will have an idea of where you'll be.

The smaller events always go totally smoothe as long as the property where it's held is large and accomodating enough where people want to stay there.

We should never have to compete in lines for FOOD and the simple basics for survival though with any other industry. Having all that shit at once plus the attraction of surfers really put a damper on things. It's not impossible but it's much harder to have quality business experiences when your feet hurt like hell, you haven't ate for 24 hrs or more cuz you can't get in anywhere, and the staff is spread so thin, you can't even get a beer to soothe your shattered nerves.

I have worked booths and I have gone to shows and worked the floor.
I have to agree with not having a booth. I think it works for some programs, like PB which has a large show pressence. It helps them have a central location on the floor and you knwo where they will be. FOr some people that have a tough time walking up to people and starting a conversation that approach works.

FOr guys like you and I roger having a booth is counter productive since we have no problem walking into a conversation and saying hello. I do more business after the show anyways, I try not to talk business at the show itself since you'll forget what we spoke about anyways, I prefer to make a good impression and become friends so that when we leave the show and parties and head home you remember me.

I think the focus will go to the smaller shows from now on. Nobody likes to get ripped off just to talk to others. Smaller shows are alive and kicking like never before and I don't think it hurts to have a booth at one of them.

Well I love booths, but things got out of hand with the costs a couple year ago. It's a nice place to meet people easily, and to brand your compagny.

But AVN definitly fucked the whole thing up.

For people like you roger, sharing a booth with 2 other people could be good ... since people know where to find you when they wanna talk to you ;)

The nice thing about booths is that it comits a company to be a certain place at a certain time almost every day. There are plenty of people that I wanted to meet up with this year and if it werent for the booth I would have never have spoken to them at all, since we went to different parties.

I guess if everyone had a 10x10 booth so you know where to meet the companies is a good idea.

Do big booths bring big biz? I personally doubt it since most are out of the biz already. webmasters dont care they just want a good product to promote and most dont even attend shows

Ive always had a booth but I personally like to float around and mingle since I have never closed a deal at a show once. its always after we all get back and i grab the show guide and hit everyone up.

I remember when I shared a booth with silvercash eons ago

The booths are strictly a way for AVN to make money.

I do business how it's been done successfully for many years: on the phone, or set up meetings. I don't go to shows, never have, and if ever do, it won't be to do business but to attend the parties.

Why would you want to talk business in a non-private setting? I don't want other people who aren't part of the conversation to be standing there while I am talking to someone else. Also, I would never talk business if I were drunk, that's a bit stupid.

But, hey, that's just me.

I would be much more willing to have a booth at InterNext/AEE if they permitted booth operators to sell merchandise.

Erotica LA, which does not even charge as much for booth space, allows people to sell their products on the floor (DVDs, clothes, toys, etc), so that people purchasing booth space know that they can expect some immediate return on their investment.

AVN/AEE and the convention center should not be the only ones allowed to directly profit from the event. Without the booths, there would be no event.

You bring up a good point there - the most productive shows for me are the ones where EVERYONE can move around as they wish as opposed to being stuck manning a booth. Maybe thats why I like Phoenix Forum :-)

From a tech company stand point its best to have booths. We were at Internext for all most 3 years (Vegas and Florida) show. Booth allowed us to show case our products to owners of large programs other wise we would not have met. But I agree Internext as a show has gone down and we dont have booths any more. The foot traffic is so bad. The best option is Phonix forum guys to allow small booths where we can set up new tech stuff and show.

Booths are too much hassle & tie you down, but on the other side, how many people have you wanted to get together with, and figured you would see them around, but you didn't?

Cybernet will not have a showroom this year. We have been trying to find the 'happy medium. We are enlarging our 3 hour evening "show N tell" event called Corridor Crusin, where all the vendors & webmasters get to gether to do business in a social buisness atmosphere. It is 6pm till 9pm first night of the show. No loud music - social atmosphere where biz gets done. If you want to get at least one shot at seeing everyone - that's it!
