My favorite western movie "Shane" with Alan Lad. By the way when I was younger some ladies thought I looked like Alan Lad, which I didn't mind. One lady thought I looked like Mickey Roony. From Alan Lad to Mickey Roony. She didn't make a hit with me.

My list of 'Must see movies'...

A Bronx Tale
Casino
Trainspotting
The Shawshank Redemption
Terminator I and II
Robocop
Stand By Me
Natural Born Killers
Goodfellas
Snatch
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Traffic
You've Got Mail
The Matrix
and True Lies, for comedy value

Plus Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs and Jackie Brown, but if everyone has already seen those....

A Bronx Tale is a must see if you've never seen it before. Definately one of the best movies out there.

2 movies that I liked, but not sure if they popular. Rent them up:

Cube <---- Canadian film, very weird but cool. People have to go through all these rooms with deadly traps and such.

Bound <------ 2 girls plan to steal money from the Mafia.

For good mainstream movies:
- Terminator I II
- Aliens I II III (4 sucks)
- Predator I
- Crow I
- Batman
- Lord of the Rings
- Casino
- Night of the living dead (orginal)
- Vampires

Blood In, Blood Out
Suspuria

A lot of movies like Goodfellas, Heat, and the Godfather Trilogy have already been listed, but I can't believe no one has mentioned Carlito's Way with Al Pacino and Sean Penn. Fucking brilliant movie, man.

Edit: It took me so long to post this, FuqALot got to it before me.

Here are some others you should see:

- Rushmore (you have to be a geek like to me think it's funny, though)
- Memento (great suspense film you have to watch at least twice to fully grasp)
- Being John Malkovich (unexplainable)
- Three Kings (one of the best war movies ever)
- Magnolia (not as good as Boogie Nights but just as epic)
- True Romance (great script by Tarantino with lots of murder and mayhem)
- Double Indemnity (a film noir classic, and for good reason)
- Mulholland Drive (a total mindfuck from David Lynch)
- 12 Monkeys (another total mindfuck, and Brad Pitt's best performance)
- Out of Sight (incredibly funny movie with a great cast)
- The Limey (what can I say, I love Steven Soderbergh's movies)
- Rounders (pretty damn interesting, and an awesome cast)
- Strangers on a Train (one of my favorite Hitchcock films)
- Big Night (a small, quiet movie about love, life, and pasta)
- The Big Lebowski (a ridiculous comedy, but impressive nonetheless)
- Cabaret (yes, it's a musical. yes, it has liza minelli. no, i'm not gay.)
- Gattaca (a science fiction film that doesn't know it's science fiction)
- Dazed and Confused (I love it because I can relate)
- The Player (awesome murder mystery about Hollywood)
- Swimming With Sharks (a darkly comic movie about Hollywood)
- Sling Blade (the reason Billy Bob Thornton is famous)
- Gengarry Glenn Ross (perfect cast, perfect dialogue, perfect film)

I know I'll think of more as soon as I hit submit...

I'm a film nut so I will just say the ones off the top of my head or I will still be here in the morning.

Clerks
Mallrats
Chasing Amy
Jay and Silent Bob - (In that order. Otherwise you are missing things that interlink and make them great)

Dogma (stand alone even tho is has Jay and Bob..can you tell I am a Kevin Smith fan)

Breakfast Club
Pretty In Pink
Ferris Buhler's Day Off
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (I am also a big John Hughes Fan)

LA Confidental (amazing film)
Wonderboys ( I think I am one of 10 people that saw it in the Cinema)
Truman Show
Pleasantville (none of the colour work was done with digital..it was all done with lighting and makeup..amazing)

Radio Days
The Goonies
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
High Fidelity (they are *so* my people)

When I am in a brainless mood:
Spinal Tap
Waynes World
Bill and Ted
National Lampoon's Europan vacation

Rocky Horror (Yes,I have the fishnets)
Attack of the killer tomatos (pure cheese)

Ack..okay I will stop

I saw a commercial for that and it looks cool, but it's not playing anywhere in my area, so I'll probably have to wait 'till it comes out on DVD.

I know I'll think of more as soon as I hit submit...
damn good list, can't think of one on there I wouldn't recomend to friends...
my typical taste in movies is extremely low budget "bad movies"m my list was a bit more "mainstream" friendly....
I can't beliueve I left "Glengarry Glenn Ross" off my list...amazing cast, damn good flick, especially if you've ever worked in a sales office.....

Hey, I couldn't agree more with your choice of movies, Dyna Spain.

Heat --> Pure fucking excellence
Ronin - Pure fucking excellence
Traffic --> pure fucking excellence
Snatch --> Pure fucking excellence
Blow --> Haven't seen it, but I will

And here is some movies that weren't mentioned (I dont think)

1) Lock Stock and two smoking barrels
2) Boondock Saints
3) We were soldiers (damn near as good as saving private ryan)
4) Saving Private Ryan
5) Scarface
6) The big heist
7) Hot shots part Deux (Absolutly fucking hilarious)

Anyway, I am a big action movie buff, but I also enjoy laughing my big ass off at well made comedies every now and then as well

EDIT:

Who else thought the big shootout after they leave the bank in "Heat" was one of the best shootouts EVR

Most of the really kickass movies have already been listed so I thought I would list a few others that I enjoyed...

Mainstream:

Indiana Jones - all three
Tombstone
Killing Zoe
The Usual Suspects
UTURN
Man Bites Dog ( really odd movie - documentary of a killer )

Just a few!

About a year ago I finally got a DVD player (no, I did not win it from GFY) - and a bunch of DVDs. I got home and it sounded like shit. The sound was not as it should have been. I'm sure I didn't have something set up right - but anyways - I went out the next day and get a Kenwood Home Theater System.

After spending the entire weekend trying to get it hooked up right I finally was happy. I swear that the poor kid that sold me the system at Circuit City was looking for a new job after all the phone calls and surprise visits I made to the store, for answers to all my complicated question about getting it hooked up exactly right.

I am a movie buff. I love all kinds of movies and my collection reflects that. I mostly have action/adventure/horror/comedy and music DVDs in my library. (That is a pretty broad spectrum there.) I have everything from the Pink Floyd classic 'The Wall' to the biggest, latest releases.

And people, make sure that you get your DVDs in DTS if possible - and if your set-up supports it. It truly means what it stands for - Digital Theater Sound.

Anyhow - I'm rambling on here and could go on all night about this, but I got to get back to making myself some more $.

Later.
