Is SE traffic bullshit?

I've heard a number of people comment about getting SE (Search Engine) traffic.

Is this for real? Are they talking paying for ad space on Search Engines or just keywords?

The only search engine that gives me any traffic to speak of is Yahoo.com

My site is listed on the first page when typing in the most popular keyword. Still, I only get about 400-600 unique hits from it per day. Yahoo is the most popular search engine out there and that's all I get from it being listed on the first page.

Can anybody clarify what they mean by SE traffic and how it can be useful or increased.

Thanks in advance compadres!

Yeah, I know what it is and they don't send any traffic to speak of...that's been my experience and i have good listings!

Unless you have the first or second spot, SE traffic is lame and overrated. I highly doubt most webmasters on this board could vouche for SE traffic, unless you think 1000k or less traffic from SE is a lot of traffic. It's not.

BV,

I got listed on Yahoo for free about a year ago. Not long enough to see a major trend downhill, but I agree that traffic has decreased on average from it.

If it use to be good, the whole idea of making money from SE traffic is bankrupt.

If you aren't doing halfway decent signups with SE traffic you need to relook over your site/s.

Gemini,

Sure, signup ratios are always going to be good with SE traffic but it's meaningless if all that you get to your site is 400-500 hits from SE's each day.

I'm not talking about being listed 30 pages in the search term. My site is listed on the very first page - within the first 20 links on the first page. I've been within the top 10 before too - same number of hits.

If I could get 10k a day through SE traffic such as yahoo I'd probably getting amazing signups but I don't think that kind of traffic is possible without paying for first or second listings on a popular search engine....and once you're paying for a listing like that (lots of $$$), it may not even prove to be worth it. Not a gamble I wouuld take anyway.

How much traffic do you recieve from SE traffic and from which Search Engines is this supposed traffic coming from?

All of my traffic comes from TGP's, link trades. That's all that their is in the biz as far as I know to get loads of traffic.

No one single site is going to get enough se traffic to make significant signups, generally speaking. You need to have hundreds or thousands of sites, tuned for various keywords and sponsors, each site getting 10-200 hits a day. It's a complex system of strategy and tactics, works best if you specialize in it.

And like most of the rest of this biz, it's harder now than it used to be.

Bill,

Thanks for clarifying brotha!

That makes sense though it also sounds like way too much work and time. It's amazing what people will do for extra coin. I think I'll stick to TGP's and trades At least I'll maintain my sanity and a bit of a social life.

Something else BoBo... look over what the SE is showing as info for your site... the short descript, the meta's etc.. What IS the Se showing for YOUR site decription... Study it! If you are within the top 20... normal page default length of SE returns and you aren't getting decent traffic, it could be your description is just flat. Spice it up, promise more, then you may pick up better.
