(CBS/AP) Small scissors and screwdrivers are among the items airline passengers will soon be allowed to take aboard planes again, Transportation Security Administration chief Kip Hawley announced Friday.

Hawley said the change will take effect Dec. 22 and is part of a broader effort aimed at having screeners spend more of their time searching for explosives rather than small, sharp objects that don't pose as great a risk.
...
Among the items no longer prohibited from airliner cabins: scissors 4 inches or less, and tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers that are smaller than 7 inches.

I just came back from vegas. NO, you cannot bring lighters. neither butane nor zippo. Fucking ass clowns at TSA. I had a zippo in packaging, that I accidently brought from SD(ANd it made it fine). Flying back to SD from LV, I was pulled aside and searched. 'looking for a lighter'. oh yeah, its in the front pocket there. Still in packaging. 'sorry, a lighter is a lighter, can't have it'.

nm the fact that both my wife and I had butane lighters in our back pockets that we accidently forgot to get rid of. What fucking good is this 'law'?

Yup when I was in the states earlier this year - I was searched for lighters and the whole explosives and drugs bs they do. After the moron did all this he confiscated the lighter I had in my pocket but missed the 5 or so others in my carry on. Along with matches etc.. The rule is a joke - much like the morons are who enforce it.
